Jilly took Ashleigh to a large tack store in Lexington that Ashleigh had never been into before. Ashleigh loved the smell of leather upon entering the store and admired boots, gloves, breeches, and saddles while Jilly picked up some tack for Maddock which included girths and saddle pads.

Because the weather had forced them to remain inside and Charlie didn't want Ashleigh to lose valuable time in the saddle, he set up a bale of hay with a racing saddle on it. This way Ashleigh could practice her balance and position without actually having to ride.

In late January Charlie was getting more and more grumpy. Ashleigh was frustrating him to no end with her riding. When Ashleigh was struggling with breaking Wonder into a gallop Charlie got off Belle, mounted Wonder and showed Ashleigh how it should be done. Pretty good for an old man who had been retired from being a jockey for many many years.

There is a trainers conference in Lexington which draws much of Townsend Acres staff away. Charlie uses the opportunity to run the filly on the training oval at night so that no one will see them and ask questions. He is going to make sure she's really ready before showing her to the staff at the farm.

Right after Wonder's workout the first night Jilly spotted someone moving in the shadows behind a tree. A couple days later Charlie informed Ashleigh that Hank, one of the oldest and most trusted grooms at the farm, had thought it would do them a favor to let their secret out to Mr. Townsend.

With Hank kicking up news about the filly's workouts Mr. Townsend naturally wanted to see how she was training. It was because of Ashleigh and Jilly's riding that Wonder was doing so well in training. Much to their horror, Jocko was assigned to the filly the morning of her demonstration run for the farm's owner, Mr. Townsend.

Since she began her training, rough handling has made Wonder difficult to deal with. Jocko wasted no time bringing the whip down hard on her the first chance he got.

With lots of surprised looks and smiles, everyone realized that Wonder had it in her all along. Brad's eyes were popping out of his head as Ashleigh gleefully smiled to herself knowing he'd been put in his place for once. Mr. Townsend recognized the work Charlie had done and requested that he officially take over training the filly.
