Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these phrases is from the book "Gone with the Wind"?

Answer: "My dear, I don't give a damn."

The more popularly known "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" was from the movie, not the book.

Answer: Cerberus

Cerberus is the three-headed beast of Hades.
3. The word "loch" is Gaelic for?

Answer: lake

4. Which of the following words would correctly complete the following sentence: "You can tell when a dog is happy, because it will wag ____ tail."?

5. In "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien, "Mithrandir" is?

Answer: Gandalf

Gandalf is known as Mithrandir in the land of Gondor.
6. Which of these characters was a captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise?

Answer: Jean-Luc Picard

Sisko captained "Deep Space 9", and Janeway captained the U.S.S. "Voyager". Captain Cook, on the other hand, was an actual person who searched for a Northwest Passage through the Canadian arctic region.
7. How do Canadians spell "humor"?

Answer: 'Humour', like the British

8. Because I know you've all been wondering, how is "Caitriona" supposed to be pronounced? (Hint: It's Gaelic)

Answer: Kah - TREE - nah

That's right! Caitriona was the closest Gaelic name that I could find to my own.
9. Which of the following jobs is NOT a "back-of-the-house" operation?

Answer: Host

"Back-of-the-house" is a hospitality term that refers to people employed by the hotel (or restaurant, etc.) that do not have direct contact with guests.
10. What actor or actress do the following movies have in common: "City of Angels" and "French Kiss"?

Answer: Meg Ryan

"City of Angels" starred Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage; "French Kiss" starred Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline.
11. Which of these telephone area codes is the odd one out?

Answer: 808

808 is Hawaii. 917, 347 and 646 are all from New York City.
12. Which mathematical study is so called because "there is an end to it"?

Answer: Finite

When something is infinite, it has no end. Therefore, if something has an end, it is finite.
13. With which psychological illness is Officer Charlie Bailygates (mis)diagnosed in "Me, Myself and Irene"?

Answer: Schizophrenia

In the movie, Charlie claims to have a form of schizophrenia, but this is a case of poor research on the part of the script staff. Dissociative Identity Disorder (also called Multiple Personality Disorder) is not co-morbid with schizophrenia, the reason being that a schizophrenic's mind is too disordered to handle additional personalities.

However, as is often the case with movies, the viewer must suspend disbelief and just be entertained by the show.
14. Which Shakespeare play featured the characters Lysander and Oberon?

Answer: A Midsummer Night's Dream

This play also has one of my favourite characters, Puck (a.k.a.: Robin Goodfellow).
15. Last, but not least: How many licks does Mr. Owl say it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll centre of a Tootsie Pop?

Answer: 3

Mr. Owl licks the Tootsie Pop three times, then bites it. Poor kid; he may never know the answer!
