Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First of all, we start elementary. What is sodium's number on the Periodic Table of the Elements?

Answer: 11

Sodium is on the far left on the Periodic Table of the Elements. Its atomic number is 11. It is a Group One element.
2. In chess, one of the 20 possible opening moves is called the Sodium Attack. What is this opening move?

Answer: Knight to a3

Na3 is the chemical name for three atoms of sodium. The Sodium Attack got its name from this. In the move, the white knight is moved first.
3. Salt is made out of two extremely reactive elements.

Answer: True

These elements are sodium and chlorine. Sodium needs to lose one atom to be positively charged, and chlorine needs to gain one atom to be negatively charged. They are both extremely reactive in this state. Sodium gives one atom to chlorine, and they have normal outer shells. Since opposites attract, the chlorine attracts to the sodium and they make salt, a harmless, flavorful seasoning.
4. According to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, about how much salt should you eat a day?

Answer: One teaspoon

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans say you should eat no more than one teaspoon of salt a day. One teaspoon is equal to approximately 2.3 grams, or 2,300 milligrams.
5. Which of these words that you can make out of three of the letters in "sodium" is an acceptable word in the "Official Word List" dictionary?

Answer: OUD

The other two words you can make out of those two letters, "udo" and "duo", are both acceptable words. "Oud" is an African instrument.
6. One-hundred percent of people's sodium intake comes from salt.

Answer: False

Sodium benzoate, a preservative, is found in processed breads. It, like others, can count towards your sodium intake.
