Answer: Clarence Darrow

Clarence Darrow (1857-1938) has been called the most famous trial lawyer in American history. He defended Tennessee teacher John Scopes in the widely-celebrated 1925 "Scopes Monkey Trial", in which the teacher was convicted of the horrific crime of teaching evolution in a Dayton, Tennessee school.

In 1924 he represented Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, two Chicago teens convicted of abducting and murdering 14-year-old Bobby Franks "for kicks". Although the pair was convicted, their lives were spared, which was an accomplishment for Darrow.
2. In what city was the Miss America pageant held every year in the US during the twentieth century?

The annual event is held at the Convention Center in the seaside resort of Atlantic City, New Jersey. The pageant was first held in 1921 as a publicity stunt to lure summer vacationers into staying longer. The first title holder was 16-year-old Margaret Gorman of Washington, DC.
