Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1993, the movie "Jurassic Park" was released. It was based on the book by Michael Crichton about cloning dinosaurs. Which of these dinosaurs' shadows is shown on the original movie cover?

Answer: Tyrannosaurus

All of the choices were also featured in the movie, but the Tyrannosaurus was on the cover. "Jurassic Park" starred Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum.
2. Disney World has created a section of Animal Kingdom referred to as "DinoLand." Which of these has NOT been featured there?

Answer: Flight of the Pterodactyl

Disney World is a theme park in Orlando, Florida. All of the choices have been featured except for "Flight of the Pterodactyl", which I made up.
3. "The Land Before Time" was originally a 1988 movie produced by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. What some might not know is that it was also a cartoon series. Which of these characters was an Apatosaurus? (Hint- often called "long neck").

Answer: Littlefoot

"Little foot" is also the name given to a dinosaur skeleton found in South Africa. Spike was a stegosaurus, Cera was a triceratops, and Petrie was a pteranodon.
4. The Bible contains dinosaur references. Which of these creatures is mentioned in the Bible and could have been a dinosaur?

Answer: behemoth

The behemoth is mentioned in Job 40. The leviathan is also mentioned in the Bible, but it is described as a sea creature. Dinosaurs are considered to be land reptiles.
5. The film "Toy Story" contained a toy dinosaur. What was his name?

Answer: Rex

Rex is a toy Tyrannosaurus rex. "Toy Story" was released in 1995. It was followed by "Toy Story 2" in 1999.
6. A very popular children's show featured a purple dinosaur. What was his name?

Answer: Barney

The name of the show is "Barney and Friends". Barney is supposed to be Tyrannosaurus rex. Other dinosaurs on the show are Baby Bop, a green protoceratops, and B.J., a yellow protoceratops. The other choices come from names of real dinosaurs.
7. Which of these well-known detective authors wrote a book about dinosaurs?

Answer: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Also the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote a book titled "The Lost World". Agatha Christie created Hercule Poirot, Carolyn Keane wrote about Nancy Drew, and Frank W. Dixon wrote the Hardy Boys' novels.
8. Now it's time for a question about real dinosaurs. Which of these was the biggest and tallest dinosaur that we know of?

Answer: Brachiosaurus

The word means "arm lizard". It is the only known dinosaur whose front legs were longer than its back legs.
9. Which of these is NOT technically a dinosaur?

Answer: Pterodactyl

The pterodactyl was not a dinosaur, though we have sometimes been led to think so. Part of the definition of a dinosaur is that it needs an upright stance, which the pterodactyl or "pterosaur" did not have.
10. Scientists do not know what exact colors the dinosaurs' skins were.

Answer: True

Some dinosaur experts have been able to discover the texture of their skin, but not the color. Fossils and other records tell scientists a lot about dinosaurs--but not everything!
