Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the US space shuttle launched in 1981?

Answer: Columbia

The Space Shuttle Columbia has the distinction of making the first shuttle mission. The US Space Shuttle Enterprise made the first shuttle test flight (1977), the US Voyager (1 and 2) were space probes sent to distant planets in our solar system (1979, 1981, 1986, 1989), while the US Space Shuttle Challenger has the tragic distinction of having exploded upon take-off in 1986.
2. Where does the literary figure Dracula live?

Answer: Transylvania

Transylvania is now presently located in Romania. However, historically Transylvania has been a part of Hungary (9th century), the Ottoman Empire (16th century), Hungary again (17th century), and finally Romania (1918). In Latin, the name means 'beyond the forest'.
3. Which of the following is a shade of purple?

Answer: magenta

First used as a colour for a synthetic dye, magenta was named after the town of Magenta: a city in Northern Italy, where in 1859, the Austrians were defeated by the French under Napoleon III.
4. Who had hits with 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light' and 'I Would Do Anything for Love'?

Answer: Meat Loaf

Both songs are sung by Meat Loaf from his albums, 'Bat Out of Hell' (1977) and 'Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell' (1993), respectively. Is it just me, or does every single DJ love to play 'Paradise' at banquets or any other events at halls?!
5. Which movie stars Sylvester Stallone as a pugilist?

Answer: Rocky

'Rocky', released in 1976, was a box-office smash, featuring Stallone as a boxer in this 'rags to riches' story (AAAADRIAN!). Unfortunately, it spawned too many unnecessary sequels.
6. In what genre did Ray Bradbury traditionally write?

Answer: science fiction

Ray Bradbury is an American author, born in 1920. One of his best-known works is the 1953 sci-fi novel, 'Farenheit 451'.
7. What is the name of the branch of knowledge concerned with the study of crime?

Answer: criminology

This should have been a dead give away. :o)
8. Which of the following is traditionally considered a sausage?

Answer: frankfurter

A frankfurter is a type of smoked sausage made from beef and pork. A schnitzel is a thin slice of boneless meat, breaded and fried. Bologna and pastrami are VERY different types of cold cuts.
9. Who portrayed 'Marmee' in the 1994 film version of 'Little Women'?

Answer: Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon portrayed the matriarchal head of the March family household in the 1994 film version of Louisa May Alcott's novel. The other three actresses had a role each in the other three versions of the film (1933, 1949, 1978).
10. Can you take a guess? Don't leave me waiting with 'antici--pation'...

Answer: RHPS

All of the answers relate to one of my favourite movies and musicals of all time, 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show'. 1. Columbia (portrayed by Little Nell in the film) is the red-haired, tap dancing resident of Dr. Frank N. Furter's castle. 2. Transylvania is the distant galaxy that Dr. Frank N. Furter, Riff Raff, Magenta are from. 3. Magenta (played by Patricia Quinn) is the vampy maid, who is also sister to Riff Raff. 4. Meat Loaf played Eddie, Frank's ex-delivery boy and Columbia's love, in the film version. 5. Rocky (played by Peter Hinwood) is Frank's boy toy creation, from which the movie gets its title. 6. 'Science Fiction' is the beautiful song playing during the opening and closing credits. 7.

The Criminologist acts as the narrator throughout the whole movie. 8. Frank N. Furter, played by Tim Curry, is 'just a sweet transvestite, from Transsexual, Transylvania....' 9. Susan Sarandon plays the character of Janet, who, along with her fiance Brad (Barry Bostwick) get pulled into the wild lives of those living in Frank's castle.
