The 'Werke ohne Opuszahl' numbers were assigned by Georg Kinsky and Hans Halm in a 1955 catalogue. The AnH numbers were also listed in the same catalogue in the appendix as compositions which were not yet authenticated to be composed by Beethoven.

The Hess numbers were assigned by Willy Hess in a separate publication.
