Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Pie

Answer: Chart

A pie chart is a type of graph used to depict statistics. It consists of a circle divided into various segments, each segment indicating a proportion of the whole. These give the appearance of a sliced pie leading to the name.
2. Salad

Answer: Days

Salad days is a term used to refer to a period of youth, mainly the associated innocence and naivety. It was coined by Shakespeare in his play "Anthony and Cleopatra".
3. Gravy

Answer: Train

Gravy train usually refers to an easy way of making money. It is sometimes also used as part of the term 'riding the gravy train' which has the same meaning.
4. Ham

Answer: Radio

Ham radio is a slang term for amateur radio. It implies that the transmissions are being carried out by individuals for their personal purposes on a non-commercial basis. The word ham is used to mock fun at such operators, similar to the connotation of the term ham actor which indicates a lack of skill.
5. Cake

Answer: Walk

A cakewalk is a challenge or task that can be easily accomplished. It is similar in meaning to the idiom "piece of cake". Both terms are believed to have originated in America in the 1800s from formal dances called "cake-walks" or "prize-walks". These events were generally held annually by the plantation owner and were an occasion for the slaves to dress up and take on the airs of the upper class.

The ones to put up the best performance won a cake at the end.
6. Soup

Answer: Strainer

Soup strainer is a slang term for a type of moustache. This particular facial feature hangs over the edges covering almost the entire mouth. It appears to catch stray food morsels and is therefore called the soup strainer.
7. Bread

Answer: Winner

A breadwinner is a person who earns money to run a family. Traditionally in most cultures, this role was expected to be played by the husband, while the wife managed the house. Another similar idiom with a food connection is "bringing home the bacon" which is used to describe a breadwinner.
8. Cookie

Answer: Monster

Cookie Monster is a character from the children's television show "Sesame Street". Like all the other characters, it is a Muppet. He is best known for calling out "Me want Cookie!" all the time.
9. Sauce

Answer: Pan

A saucepan is a cooking vessel with a handle and lid. In Enid Blyton's "The Faraway Tree" series there is a character called The Saucepan Man. He gets his name from the various pots and pans attached to his clothing and invariably ends up creating a racket wherever he goes.
10. Bun

Answer: Fight

A bunfight is a term used in the UK for a formal tea party. It can also be used to describe a heated argument over a seemingly trivial issue.
