The memorial is better known to most as the St. Louis Arch or the Gateway Arch. The memorial actually consists of the arch, a park, and the Museum of Westward Expansion which lies underground directly beneath the arch. It contains a statue of Thomas Jefferson, the U.S. president who negotiated the Louisiana Purchase.
