Written in 1979 under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman, one of my all time favourite King books. There is also a book written under the same title by Slavomir Rawicz so another trivia player pointed out to me.

Full thickness = third degree, Partial thickness = second degree, Superficial =first degree. I know this because I received all three types almost ten years ago.

Mach speed was named after Ernst Mach an Austrian physicist, 1836-1916. It is not possible for anything man-made to reach the speed of light.
