Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dementia patient can't have a real dog? Try this one!

Answer: Tombot

Billed as one of the world's most realistic robots (for good reason!) Tombot provides emotional support for those suffering the effects of demetia, loneliness, anxiety or who just need affection. The fact that the Tombot gives affection and comfort without the needs of a real dog means that this is a great tool for increasing social engagement.
2. Cult classic television show "Mystery Science Theater 3000", Season 8 Episode 16; Tom Servo plays a dog and this robot plays a bear.

Answer: Crow

Servo goes a bit far - not unusual - and Crow and Servo sound like kids telling on each other as they explain to Joel just what happened. The skit winds up with Crow begging Mike to put his entrails back into place. If you haven't watched the "MST3K" series, try it!
3. A child's puppy toy produced by the Ideal Toy Company in the 1960s.

Answer: Gaylord

Gaylord the mechanical dog was full of tricks, at least according to the advertising! He was a battery-operated walking Basset Hound that came with his own leash and a magnetic nose, with which he could pick up his bone. The popularity of this toy at Christmas was a significant threat to competitor companies. Morris and Rose Michtom founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company, which produced Gaylord, in Brooklyn in 1903.
4. The names of Poppy's robot guard dogs in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle".

Answer: Jet and Bennie

"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" is a 2017 spy comedy that features both Colin Firth and Taron Egerton as Kingsmen. In this, the sequel to 2015's "Kingsman: The Secret Service", Julianne Moore makes an appearance as the evil Poppy Adams. She maintains two pet robot dogs that she has named Jet and Bennie because she is an obsessed Elton John fan.

In the end, it is Harry (Colin Firth) who destroys the two dogs, ironically, with the help of Elton John who'd been captured and held prisoner by Poppy.
5. "Fallout New Vegas": the king of dogs.

Answer: Rex

"Fallout New Vegas" is a post-apocalyptic action role-playing video game that was released by Obsidian Entertainment in 2010. In this series Rex is a cyberdog who is owned by "The King", an Elvis impersonator who leads a gang of Elvis impersonators. Rex is a German Shepherd who was born in 2072 and served in the Denver City Police Department. He was cybernetically enhanced but the back story to this is not known, nor how he came to be in the possession of the King. The King has a fondness for Rex and tries desperately to get help for him when Rex's brain starts to degenerate.
6. "Transformers: Rescue Bots" emergency-response dog.

Answer: Servo

Aimed at pre-school viewers, these non-violent robots are there to help rescue humans from disasters. Servo is the faithful and helpful Mini-Con dog belonging to High Tide. And he's clever; he was able to transform himself into a wheelbarrow to carry oil dispersant when there was an emergency on an oil rig.
7. He was a toy that appeared on the cover of "Time" magazine.

Answer: Tekno

Invented by Bob Del Principe, Brian Dubinsky and Gary Leynes, Tekno was released to the public in 2000 by ToyQuest and Genesis Toys. He proved so popular that seven million units of him were sold in the first release and, in all, over forty million in its first four years of production.

This remarkable toy came complete with 160 different emotions and responses. It could respond to commands such as "fetch" and "sit". The beauty for parents was that the children could have a pet that didn't die if they didn't look after it. An award winning dog, he has appeared in films, on television and, as stated above, as a stand alone feature and on the cover in "Time" magazine. Woof!
8. This robot dog first appeared in "Doctor Who".

Answer: K9

K9 has been a faithful companion to the good Doctor for, seemingly, ages (no pun intended). He makes his first appearance way back in 1977 in what was supposed to be a brief cameo but proved to be so popular that he soon became a regular. Other versions of K9 followed. Mark II appeared in 1978 with added mobility and the ability to sense danger so was able to warn the Doctor.

The third version of K9 shows up in 1981 but this time as a companion to Sarah Jane Smith. The Mark IV K9 appears in 2006, which soon led to the spin-off series "The Sarah Jane Adventures" with K9 as her regular companion.
9. This is the main deuteragonist in "Samurai Pizza Cats".

Answer: Guido Anchovy

"Samurai Pizza Cats" is a Japanese anime series that came to air in 1990. Set in a mechanical city which is run by a mechanical rat (Big Cheese)... I'm not kidding, but wait, it gets better. He has two minions, a pair of ninja crows called Jerry Atric and Bad Bird.

The Big Cheese has plans for domination but his main rival is Al Dente who has been unsuccessfully trying to prosecute the Big Cheese for years without luck. To aid him in his quest, Al Dente employs the help of three robotic cats who work at the local pizza shop - Guido Anchovy, Speedy Cerviche and Polly Esther.
10. It's a Fisher Price dog that can burp after it chews.

Answer: Rocket, the Wonder Dog

They say that "Rocket the Wonder Dog" stands on his head and scratches fleas. He sits, begs and barks just like a real dog and he only responds to his master. The master is you, his owner; his responses are activated by voice recognition technology that has been installed into him. Rocket, oh he has amazingly expressive eyes, and he can sing and he... he's so special.
