Answer: the Pyrenees

Aneto (3,404 m), Posets (3,375 m}, and Urkulu (1,419 m) are all peaks in the Pyrenees. Aneto is the Pyrenees' highest peak and third highest in Spain. Posets is the second highest and also in Spain. Urkulu straddles the French-Spanish border and has the remains of a Roman tower on its summit.
2. We'll make sure the time calibrations on our way-back machine will give us good flexibility, but we can set the location dial firmly on Athens. Whom will we then be able to visit?

Answer: Sophocles

Of these choices, only Sophocles lived in Athens, where he won over 20 dramatic competitions. Among his 123 plays are "Oedipus Rex", "Ajax", "Electra", and "Antigone". He is also, of the three, the only historical character, both Damocles and Androcles being the stuff of legend. Damocles is in the story of the sword that hung over the throne of Syracuse, and Androcles is the story of the shepherd who befriended a lion.
3. If you wanted to hang with the locals on your vacation to Moratua, Kandy, and Galle, which language would you want to brush up on?

Answer: Sinhalese

Moratua, Kandy, and Galle are cities in Sri Lanka, whose majority population are Sinhalese. The oldest democracy in South Asia, Sri Lanka was known as Ceyon until 1972. Moratua is the third-largest city, with about 208,000 people. Kandy is the sixth largest, with about 125,000, and Galle is ninth, with just under 100,000.
4. What is ghillie?

Answer: Ghillie is a type of shoe.

Ghillies are a type of tongueless shoe, usually associated with Scottish dances. They are soft, similar to ballet shoes. Formerly, a ghillie was a male attendant to a Highland chief, and nowadays is also often the term for a hunting or fishing guide in the Highlands of Scotland.
5. Who was the founder of an American colony which became one of the Original Thirteen States?

Answer: John Wheelwright

Born in Lincolnshire, Wheelwright arrived in Boston in 1636. However, like his brother-in-law's wife, Anne Hutchinson, he eventually wore out his welcome and was cast out of Massachusetts. In 1638 he established the town of Exeter in what would become the colony of New Hampshire.
6. I'm enjoying a view of the river Avon in a historic town that played an important role of the reign of Alfred the Great. Where might I be?

Answer: Chippenham

When Alfred was but four years old, his sister Ethelwitha married the King of Mercia in Chippenham. Twenty-five years later, in 878, the Danes captured the city, forcing Alfred to flee. But later that same year, Alfred defeated the Danes in the Battle of Ethandun and they made a formal surrender at Chippenham, cementing his role of King of Wessex, which he had assumed in 871. Chippenham is in Wiltshire, while Faversham is in Kent, and Waregem is across the Channel, in Belgium.
7. The other day I overheard two people discussing KAURI. What in the world were they talking about?

Answer: a type of trees

Kauri is a group of trees native to New Zealand. Also known as dammar, "kauri" comes from the Maori name for the trees. They are endemic to the northern half of the North Island, growing up to 50 meters in height. A coniferous tree, kauri forests are among the most ancient in the world.
8. Which of the following is group of islands bearing Greek names?

Answer: the Cyclades

The Cyclades are located in the center of the Aegean Sea and are the most popular island group in Greece. Among them are Ios, Mykonos, Naxos, and Santorini, which was once known as Thera or Thira. It is a popular theory that Thera, before the eruption of its volcanic core sometime prior to 1500 BC, may have been the origin of the Atlantis story and that same eruption brought about the end of Atlantis and/or Minoan civilization.

The Hebrides consists of two sets of islands off the western coast of Scotland, while the Pleiades are a star cluster, not an island group.
9. I was born before 1950, but I think my real personality was formed during the 1960s. Which of the following expressions dates from those "Swinging Sixties"?

Answer: main squeeze

Although you will find sources that say "main squeeze" was first recorded in 1896, it first came into general usage in the Sixties in referring to one's girlfriend or boyfriend, according to most sources for slang of that decade. "Big cheese" and "bee's knees," on the other hand, were the vogue in the Roaring Twenties.
