Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A happy ten-pin bowler

Answer: Turkey

In ten-pin bowling, three consecutive strikes is known as a turkey. A strike is when the bowler successfully knocks down all ten pins with one ball. A perfect game in bowling (300 points) would require four consecutive turkeys, including three strikes in the tenth and last frame.

The term turkey comes from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Bowling alleys would sometimes award a free turkey as a prize to bowlers who could get three consecutive strikes. At the time hand-set pins and the hard rubber used in bowling balls made this a more difficult task even for experienced bowlers.
2. Balaam

Answer: Donkey

Balaam is a diviner in the Biblical Book of Numbers. As the text relates, on one occasion Balaam is on a journey against the wishes of God. God sends the Angel of the Lord to stop him. The Angel is only seen by the donkey Balaam is riding. When the donkey stops in its tracks, Balaam beats the donkey.

The donkey is temporarily given the power of speech and complains about how Balaam is treating him. The Angel then appears to Balaam and says that the donkey stopping saved Balaam's life.
3. Eddie Arcaro

Answer: Jockey

Eddie Arcaro (1916-1997) was a Hall of Fame Jockey who won the Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes) twice--in 1941 riding Whirlwind, and in 1948 riding Citation. During his racing career (1932-1962), he won 4,779 races. After his racing career ended, he worked as a commentator for televised races.
4. Igor

Answer: Lackey

Igor is a stereotypical name for a lackey to a mad scientist. A lackey is a term for a servant that has a somewhat negative connotation. Fun fact: You might associate the name Igor with Dr. Frankenstein but in Mary Shelley's novel, the Doctor has no assistant and in the 1931 film "Frankenstein", the assistant's name is Fritz. Characters named Igor or Ygor do appear in several derivative works.
5. Gordie Howe

Answer: Hockey

Gordie Howe (1928-2016) was known as "Mr. Hockey". He played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League (1946-1971, 1979-1980) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (1973-1979). He was a 23-time NHL All-Star. He scored 801 NHL goals and 174 WHA goals.

He was the namesake for a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" where a player scores a goal, records an assist, and gets into a fight in the same game--a feat he accomplished only twice in his career, far fewer than the leaders in that statistic.
6. Curious George

Answer: Monkey

Curious George is a monkey who appears as the title character in a series of books written by H. A. Rey and Margret Ray that appeared between 1941 and 1966. He was a supporting character in another book that appeared in 1939. Curious George's friend and guardian is the Man with the Yellow Hat. Curious George's story has been adapted for both television and film.
7. Kenickie from "Grease"

Answer: Hickey

Kenickie is a character from the stage and movie musical "Grease". He is the friend and second-in-command to Danny Zuko, the leader of the T-Birds (Burger Palace Boys in the stage musical). In the movie, Betty Rizzo (Stockard Channing), Kenickie's girlfriend complains about the number of hickeys he has given her. (A hickey is a bruise on the neck caused by biting or hard sucking during kissing.) Kenickie (Jeff Conaway) replies "Relax...A hickie from Kenickie is like a Hallmark card, when you only care enough to send the very best!"
8. Toni Basil

Answer: Mickey

Toni Basil (born 1943 as Antonia Christina Basilotta) is a choreographer, singer, and actress best known for her 1982 cover of "Mickey", which was an Number One hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Two of her other songs, "Over My Head" (1983) and "Suspense" (1984) were also Top Ten Hits on the US Dance chart.

The music video of "Mickey" is also well known for Toni Basil's cheerleader costume and routine. A cheerleader in high school, she was the choreographer for her own music video.
9. William Hung

Answer: Off-key

William Hung sprang to fame during Season 3 of "American Idol" for his off-key rendition of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs". The Civil Engineering student was able to spin this appearance into a musical "career" that lasted several years. His 2004 album "Inspiration" actually sold over 200,000 copies and peaked at Number 34 on the US Billboard 200 chart and Number One on the US Indie chart despite highly negative critical reviews.
10. A bartender in Washington, DC

Answer: Rickey

A rickey is a mixed drink that features gin or bourbon, a lime, and carbonated water. It is believed that a Washington, DC bartender named George Williamson created the drink in collaboration with Democratic lobbyist Colonel Joe Rickey in the 1880s. Rickies are mentioned in both "The Great Gatsby" and an episode of "The Simpsons. Since 2008, the DC Craft Bartenders Guild have named July as Rickey month.
