Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The researchers wanted to know where else pocket lint might be found. What did their report show?

Answer: pocket lint is exclusive to a pocket

Research showed that pocket lint - true pocket lint - appears exclusively in pockets. Navel lint is actually belly button lint, dryer lint is dryer lint and those are dust bunnies you find under furniture, which have no relation to pocket lint.
2. If you drop a cannonball and a wad of pocket lint while standing in a vacuum chamber, which will hit the floor first?

Answer: both objects hit the floor at the same time

Using high-speed photography and computer analysis, extensive studies showed that both the cannonball and the pocket lint will hit the floor at the precise same moment.
3. Which of the following fabrics is most likely to produce the most pocket lint?

Answer: cotton

Hands down, it's cotton. The other fabrics are created from long-chain polymer molecules which, as we all know, are unlikely to produce much lint.
4. Is pocket lint edible?

Answer: all of these

Numerous cases of pocket lint ingestion were analyzed and while reports show it does taste icky, it won't kill you if you accidently eat some stuck to the Oreo you've been carrying around.
5. Can a DNA profile be developed from pocket lint?

Answer: in some cases

Actually, pocket lint may contain skin cells and even hairs of the pocket user which could be extracted to provide a DNA profile.
6. How long can pocket lint be safely stored in a freezer?

Answer: forever

If the freezer motor burns out, the pocket lint will survive fine. It can be kept frozen for 127 days and longer if you'd like. And of course pocket lint can be frozen. Why not?
7. According to the university study, how many references to pocket lint are found in the Bible (King James, Standard)?

Answer: 0

Research showed that Noah may have complained about a pocket lint problem on the ark but the complaint was never written down. There are no verified references to pocket lint in the Bible.
8. How often should the average person check for pocket lint?

Answer: as often as s/he likes

The average person can check as often as s/he wants to. You should change your oil every 3000 miles. If you check hourly, the study recommends you seek professional help for obsessive-compulsive (OC) disorder.
9. What is the easiest way to remove unwanted pocket lint from a pocket, according to the university researchers?

Answer: with the fingers

Tests showed that simply grabbing the pocket lint between two fingers was the most efficient way to rid oneself of the problem.
10. The university report concludes with a section titled 'Practical Uses for Pocket Lint'. How many uses did the researchers discover?

Answer: 0

Regrettably, despite hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless man hours, researchers could find no practical uses for pocket lint. Thanks to Terry for the inspiration for the study and this quiz.
