Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rehaberpro asks: "You may have been taught the 'Golden Rule', but do you remember what it is"?

Answer: One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself

Although this may strike you as Sunday School rhetoric, it has a base in nearly every major religion, as well as various moral and ethical codes.

In Islam we find "Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you".

Plato quoting Socrates wrote "One should never do wrong in return, nor mistreat any man, no matter how one has been mistreated by him".

And from Taoism "Regard your neighbor's gain as your own gain, and your neighbor's loss as your own loss".

And the list goes on.
2. Dr. No asks: "In 'Goldfinger' (1964), which actor's real voice is only heard in one scene although he is one of the major characters in the film"?

Answer: Gert Frobe (Auric Goldfinger)

Michael Collins' voice was dubbed in for all of Frobe's lines, except in the scene at Auric Stud where Goldfinger (Frobe) meets with the Mafia. Various attempts were made to use Frobe's real voice, but with limited English and having to speak phonetically, he couldn't achieve the necessary speed/tempo for his own voice to be dubbed in.
3. CAGuy0206 asks: "In 'Austin Powers in Goldmember', Number Two mentioned a talent agency to Dr. Evil. He said they were able to sign such stars to it like George Clooney, Julia Roberts and which other Hollywood performer"?

Answer: Leonardo DiCaprio

Dr. Evil appreciated the potential that a talent agency could give him in helping make huge sums of money. Dr. Evil implied how he wanted to hear more about this business. Number Two provided additional details and, after he mentioned that they signed a high profile client in Leonardo DiCaprio, both he and Mini Me expressed excitement.
4. MovieMaster14 asks: "The 1964 US Presidential Election saw Barry Goldwater winning the Republican Party's nomination. What was the name of the New York politician who served as Goldwater's Republican Party running mate"?

Answer: William E. Miller

Lyndon Johnson won the election and four more years as President, defeating Goldwater/Miller by a total of 486 electoral votes to 52 electoral votes. Although never serving as President, Goldwater is credited, by columnist George Will, as having paved the way for the Ronald Reagan era. One of Goldwater's campaign slogans featured the chemical symbols for gold(Au) and water(H2O) and read as AuH2O. William Miller was the first practicing Catholic to be nominated for the presidential ticket by the Republican Party.
5. Sizzileen asks: "For what film did Goldie Hawn receive an Oscar"?

Answer: Cactus Flower (1970)

Goldie was nominated nine times for a Golden Globe Award and twice for an Academy Awards. In 1970 she won both for Supporting Actress in "Cactus Flower". Her Oscar nomination was for "Private Benjamin". She got her big break on TV's "Laugh In".
6. Rehaberpro asks: "Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the globe 1577-1580. What was the name of his ship"?

Answer: The Golden Hind

'Hind' is another word for a female deer. Drake's sponsor was Sir Christopher Hatton, whose family crest was a golden 'hind'. Drake was a 'privateer', a more polite name for a pirate. Returning to England, Drake was knighted by Queen Elizabeth.
7. Matthewpokemon asks: "In S.E. Hinton's novel 'The Outsiders', what does it mean when somebody tells you to 'Stay Gold'"?

Answer: Keep doing well whatever it is that you do well

The phrase 'Stay Gold' means "stick to doing the things that you're good at".
In the 1965 S.E. Hinton novel "The Outsiders", Johnny Cade, a member of the 'Greasers' tells his best friend, Ponyboy Curtis, to 'Stay Gold', just before he (Johnny) dies. It's Johnny's way of saying to Ponyboy that Ponyboy can go far in life doing the things that he's good at.
8. Squidwardd asks: "In the 1955 'I Love Lucy' episode 'The Tour', which of the following films does Richard Widmark mention to Ricky that he has recently shot"?

Answer: Prize of Gold

In the 1955 "I Love Lucy" episode "The Tour", Lucy and Ethel go on a tour bus to see the homes of the stars. When Lucy forces the bus to stop at the home of Richard Widmark, the bus actually does have the nerve to leave without Lucy and Ethel (but who can blame them?). Lucy soon after gets stuck in Richard Widmark's house when she tries to steal a grapefruit from a tree in his backyard for a keepsake. Richard Widmark mentions to Ricky that he has filmed a movie recently called "Prize of Gold" (1955). One can't help but feel this was a shameless plug for the film.

In the movie, Richard Widmark's character, Sgt. Joe Lawrence, turns to crime after World War II with a woman he loves, and plans to hijack a military plane carrying a golden fortune.
9. Squidwardd says: "Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir had nothing but criticism for Pope Pius XII after his death for his silence during the Shoah". Is this statement true or false?

Answer: False

That notion is very false indeed! She praised Pope Pius XII shortly after his death for all he had done to help the Jews during their persecutions by the Nazis during World War II. It was the 1963 play "The Deputy" by Rolf Hochhuth that started that slanderous myth of Pius XII's wartime "silence".

In the play, Pius XII was accused of failure to speak out against the atrocities being committed as leader of a worldwide organization of half of a billion strong. Many scholars argue that Pius XII saved hundreds of thousands (!) of Jews.

In fact, the Chief Rabbi of Rome converted to Roman Catholicism out of gratitude for all Pius XII had done for his people. Why certain fools would blame the man who saved them in lieu of the monsters who were really responsible is anyone's distressed guess.
10. Sizzileen asks: "What singing group members wrote this song"? "Silence is golden Oh don't it hurt deep inside To see someone do something to her Oh don't it pain to see someone cry"

Answer: Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

"Silence Is Golden" was one of several hits for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, such as "Sherry" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You". Valli was New Jersey born. During his career he lost his hearing, but an operation restored it. "Jersey Boys" opened on Broadway in 2005 and was based on the life and careers of the Frankie and the Four Seasons.

In 1967 the English band The Tremeloes revived the song and rode it to #1 on the English charts and #11 on the US Billboard.
