Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who played Ginger in "Gilligan's Island"?

Answer: Tina Louise

2. Roger Williams founded the first permanent settlement in what future US state?

Answer: Rhode Island

Williams originally settled in Massachusetts as a minister, but got into multiple disputes with the religious leaders there regarding issues like religious freedom, and was banished from the colony. He then acquired some land and founded the city of Providence in 1636, becoming the father of Rhode Island.
3. Who directed the movie "Silence of the Lambs"?

Answer: Jonathan Demme

His varied list of movies directed also includes "Philadelphia" and "Married to the Mob".

Tom Tom the piper's son, stole a pig and away did run.
5. Which of these movies did John Goodman appear in?

Answer: "True Stories"

He was the best known actor in this odd little movie about a film crew doing a documentary about a small town in Texas.
6. Which of the following people is not known as an historian and author?

Answer: Gabriel Byrne

Stephen Ambrose is famous for his books related to WWII, especially "D-Day; The Normandy Invasion" and and was also instrumental in getting the D-Day museum built in New Orleans. Barbara Tuchman's best known works are related to WWI, such as "The Guns of August", and Bruce Catton wrote extensively about the US Civil War, including a trilogy on the Army of the Potomac. If you think history books are boring, any of these authors will change your mind. Gabriel Byrne is an actor.
7. Who was the long time host of the 'Professional Bowler's Tour' on TV?

Answer: Chris Schenkel

When all is said and done, is he better known for being the network's lead College football announcer, or the lead Bowling announcer? Be honest out there. I bet most of you who grew up in the 60's and 70's in the US at least occasionally watched the show on Saturday afternoon.
8. During the 90s', the company that makes Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream honored a musician by naming a flavor after him. Who was he?

Answer: Jerry Garcia

The ice cream flavor "Cherry Garcia" was named for the long time lead singer of the Grateful Dead. It's not my favorite flavor, but then, I'm not a deadhead.
9. What is the title of Al Green's autobiography?

Answer: "Take Me to the River"

The title is taken from one of his early hits. He went from being a successful soul music singer in the 60's and 70's to finding religion and becoming a preacher.
10. You have all the clues, so what's the common bond?

Answer: The Talking Heads

Tina (#1) Weymouth was the bass player, the band was first organized while 3 of the 4 members were attending college in Rhode Island (#2), Jonathan Demme (#3) directed their concert film "Stop Making Sense", Tina and Chris, who are married, created a separate band called the Tom Tom (#4) Club, the movie "True Stories" (#5) was the name of an album by the band, and was narracted by David (#6) Byrne, the lead singer, Chris (#7) Frantz was the drummer, Jerry (#8) Harrison was the keyboardist, and their cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River" (#9) was a breakout hit.

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, which gave fans like myself the opportunity to see them perform once again, which was cool.
