Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Can you complete the song lyric, "She put the lime in the _______, she drank them both up?"

Answer: coconut

This song was most recently used in the movie "Practical Magic" when the women all slip down to the kitchen for Midnight Margaritas. Complete song lyrics are available at http://www.angelfire.com/rant/enchanted/lyrics/coconut.html
2. Etorki, Nagelkaas, and Piacentinu are all what?

Answer: cheeses

Behold, the power of cheese. Etorki is a French cheese, made from ewe's milk. It is described as firm and supple with a burnt caramel sweetness and a creamy texture. Nagelkaas is a Dutch specialty cheese, rarely available outside of Holland. It is made from skim milk and flavored with cloves and cumin. Since cloves resemble nails, the cheese is locally known as "Nail cheese" or in Dutch, "Nagelkaas."
Piacentinu is a sheep's milk cheese produced exclusively in Sicily, and is flavored with saffron and whole black peppercorns. Cheeses found at igourmet.com
3. Which of the following words is associated with wolves?

Answer: lupine

Lupine means characteristic of or resembling a wolf. Wolves are in the genus of the Canidae, which includes domestic and wild dogs, wolves, and jackals. www.dictionary.com
4. What would you call someone who always looks on the bright side?

Answer: optimist

When looking at a half glass of water, the pessimist will say the glass is half empty, while the optimist will say the glass is half full. I am a realist, and I say the glass is too big.
5. What is an annoying e-mail, or a processed lunch meat?

Answer: SPAM

Spam is defined as "Unsolicited Commercial E-mail", and the people who send it are called spammers - and many other names that FunTrivia won't let me print here. The best way to get lots and LOTS of spam is to reply to the letters and ask to be removed from their mailing list. The original sender may take you off theirs, but the next thing they will do is sell your e-mail address to 10,000 other companies. There are websites out there where you can report spam, and they will (allegedly) do something about it. One is SpamCop at http://spamcop.net/

The foodstuff called SPAM was created in 1937. SPAM was originally called Hormel Spiced Ham. Hormel, realizing that the name sucked, held a contest to come up with a distinctive name. The winner received $100 and was never heard from again. From spam.com
6. Which avian creature can mimic human speech?

Answer: parrot

Parrots are easily recognized by their colorful feathers and their short, hooked beaks. Parrots in the wild eat seeds and fruits, and feed their young by regurgitation (tasty!). Of the 315 varieties of parrots, African Gray and Amazon parrots are the best mimics. Parrot facts from http://www.infoplease.com/
The term 'parroting' means "to repeat or imitate, especially without understanding". (definition by www.dictionary.com)
7. Who directed and wrote the screenplay for "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"?

Answer: Terry Gilliam

Terry Gilliam's directing credits include: "Brazil", "Time Bandits", "Twelve Monkeys", and "The Fisher King". He is currently (2002) directing the in-production movie "Good Omens", which is based on a Terry Pratchett book by the same name. From IMDb.
8. Tomás de Torquemada was appointed the head of what?

Answer: the Spanish Inquisition

Tomás de Torquemada was a Spanish Dominican friar. In 1483 Ferdinand and Isabella appointed him as Inquisitor General, and in 1487 he was made Grand Inquisitor by Pope Innocent VIII. The Spanish Inquisition caused the death and torture of thousands of individuals. Many of those who were killed or tortured were Jewish, or were persons accused of witchcraft. From infoplease.com
9. What is another term for a male gamete?

Answer: sperm

It takes 72 days to create mature sperm. A human sperm can live outside the human body, at room temerature and without drying out, for 4 to 6 hours. If it dries out, it can live 1 to 3 hours. Inside a human female, sperm can live for up to 48 hours.

I hope you appreciate the interesting info on this question - do you have any idea what I went through researching sperm on the internet?
10. All of these answers have something in common, what is it?

Answer: Monty Python

The six original members of Monty Python were; John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, Michael Palin. Their show, "Monty Python's Flying Circus" had 39 episodes. After John Cleese left at the end of the third season, the fourth season, with 6 episodes, was simply called "Monty Python". There were 2 specials done after that, for a total of 47 Monty Python episodes.

Graham Chapman has passed on, he is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile! He's ... snuffed it!... THIS IS AN EX-PYTHON! 10/04/89 RIP

For more information on Monty Python, visit the official website at http://www.pythonline.com/

Here's the relationships: #1 In the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", they couldn't afford to use horses in the film- so they cut coconuts in half and had the "horseman" trot around clapping the two halves together in order to sound like a horse. #2 The Cheese Shop skit, one of my favorites. #3 Lupine is an alternate spelling of lupin, which is a flower used by Dennis Moore...He steals them from the rich, And gives them to the poor (another MP skit). #4 From the song, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" in the movie, "The Life of Brian". #5 One of their skits deals with SPAM (the lunchmeat). #6 The Dead Parrot skit, probably their most famous. In researching, I could not find any evidence that the Norwegian Blue is an actual breed of parrot. Beautiful plumage, though. #7 Terry Gilliam is a cast member and directs many of the Python movies. #8 Weren't expecting that, were you? #9 Who can forget the song "Every Sperm is Sacred?" From the movie "The Meaning of Life".

Here are links to my 3 favorite Monty Python skits, which were all named in this quiz:
