1. Nevada has more of these geographical features than any other state in the United States.

Answer: Mountain ranges

Nevada has the most named mountain ranges in the United States. The tallest peak in Nevada is Boundary Peak, in the White Mountains, which stands 13,145'. The peak is 82' taller than the second tallest mountain, Mt. Wheeler, which is located in Nevada's only national park, Great Basin National Park.
2. The Duckwater School, located in northeastern Nye County, has a unique distinction among Nevada schools. What is it?

Answer: Last remaining one-room schoolhouse

The Nye County School District covers 18,159 square miles. It is 250 miles from the southern most to the northern most school. The district also features the last one-room schoolhouse in Nevada, at Duckwater. Nye County is also home to the Nevada Test Range where the Stealth fighter was developed in the 1980s.
3. What exotic animal was used as pack animal in Nevada to get supplies to some mining towns during the 1860s?

Answer: Camels

Camels were used to transport needed supplies for a little more than a decade in the high deserts. However, once railroads were built, they weren't needed anymore. The camels were released into the wild and survived for many years. The last wild camel died in 1907.
4. Las Vegas is known for many odd things. The first museum in the world completely devoted to which well-known and flamboyant entertainer was opened in April 1979?

Answer: Liberace

The Liberace Museum featured many of his rare pianos, an extensive collection of his stage outfits, exotic cars, and his jewelry. Liberace was a mainstay at the Las Vegas showrooms until his death in 1987 and was voted "Best Las Vegas Entertainer" numerous times. The museum closed in October 2010.
5. The Commercial Hotel in Elko was the first casino to feature big name entertainers on their stage. This concept was later copied by Las Vegas. Elko also had a famous crooner who served as honorary mayor from 1948 to 1977. What was his name?

Answer: Bing Crosby

Bing Crosby had a couple of ranches close to Elko and spent a considerable amount of time in the area. His special custom tuxedo that was made up for the "mayor" is on display at the Northeastern Nevada Museum.
6. Which piece of a construction worker's now required safety equipment was invented specifically for use during the building of Hoover (Boulder) Dam?

Answer: Hard hat

Because of the danger of falling rocks during the dam's construction, technicians on site developed the hard hat in 1933. OSHA regulations now require that all workers in construction zones were hard hats.
7. United Parcel Service founder, James E. Casey, was born in a small Nevada mining camp named Candelaria in 1888.

Answer: True

Casey was born in Pickhandle Gulch in Candelaria on March 29, 1888. As a youngster, he worked for a freighting company hauling mining supplies. When he was 19, he left and started his own business in Seattle. This company was renamed United Parcel Service in 1919.
8. Mining has always been a vital part of Nevada's economy. Since the early 1980s, gold has overtaken silver as the main mineral in the state. Most of the gold recovered comes in which form?

Answer: Microscopic

In the late 1960s, it was discovered that there were literally tons of gold in ore that could not be seen by the naked eye. New electromagnetic recovery methods were developed that led to a huge mining boom in Nevada. Most of the most prominent gold mines are located along the Carlin Trend in northeastern Nevada.
9. In a remote area of Nevada sits the town of Rachel. The highway that runs through it was renamed to reflect its proximity to Area 51 (shhh, that area that doesn't exist!). What is that name?

Answer: Extraterrestrial Highway

Due to all the hoopla surrounding the mysterious goings on at Area 51 at Groom Lake, people began flocking to the Rachel area hoping to see alien aircraft flying around. Inventive business people at Rachel took hold of the idea opening the Alien Inn and other similar named places.

In 1996, the Nevada Commission on Tourism proposed renaming Highway 375 to the Extraterrestrial Highway to capitalize on the publicity. Even special highway signs were put up as part of the promotion.
10. Nevada became a state on Halloween.

Answer: True

Nevada became a state on October 31, 1864 as a Union state. Nevada Day is celebrated on the last weekend of October with a huge parade in the state capital, Carson City.
