Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. US PRESIDENTS. The year George W. Bush was born PLUS the number of his presidency EQUALS:

Answer: The year George H. W. Bush became President

George W. Bush was born in 1946 and his was the 43rd presidency of the Unites States (although he was the 42nd man to hold the office--Grover Cleveland's non-consecutive terms make him both the 22nd and 24th president). Add them together and you get 1989; the year George H. W. Bush became President. Clinton was 1993, Reagan was 1981, Carter was 1977.
2. BRITISH PRIME MINISTERS. The number of years served by Sir Alec Douglas-Home MINUS The number of female British prime ministers in the twentieth century EQUALS:

Answer: The number of Prime Ministers since 1925 representing the Liberals

Sir Alec Douglas-Home served just one year as Prime Minister from 1963-1964 and there was only one female Prime Minister in the 20th century, the unforgettable Margaret Thatcher (1 - 1 = 0). Since 1925 there have been no Prime Ministers from the Liberal Party, the last being David Lloyd George from 1916-1922. James Ramsay MacDonald was in office from 1931-1935 representing a National Government. Since 1925 there have also been 9 Conservative and 5 Labour Prime Ministers.
3. THE BEATLES. The year in which The Beatles formed MINUS The number of Beatles' Number Ones in the UK Singles Chart EQUALS:

Answer: The year George Harrison was born

The Beatles formed in 1960 and they have had 17 Number One hits in the UK (1960 - 17 = 1943). Paul McCartney was born on 18th June 1942, John Lennon on 9th October 1940, George Harrison on 24th February 1943, and Ringo Starr on 7th July 1940.
4. FIFA WORLD CUP FINALS. The number of times Brazil won the World Cup from 1930 to 2002 MULTIPLIED BY the number of times Germany (including West Germany) had won the World Cup from 1930 to 2002 EQUALS:

Answer: The number of goals scored by Brazil in World Cup Finals from 1930 to 2002

Brazil won the World Cup five times (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002) and Germany won it three times (1954, 1974, 1990) (5 * 3 = 15). Brazil has scored a total of 15 goals in their seven World Cup Final appearances. Germany has also played in seven Finals, scoring 11 goals, Argentina have been in four Finals (7 goals), and Italy has played five Finals, scoring a total of 10 goals.
5. WORLD FLAGS. The total number of stars on the flag of New Zealand PLUS The total number of stars on the flag of Syria EQUALS:

Answer: The total number of stars on the flag of Australia

There are 4 stars on the flag of New Zealand and 2 stars on the flag of Syria (4 + 2 = 6). The Australian flag has 6 stars, the Samoan has 5, the flag of China has 5 and the Cuban flag has just 1 star (La Estrella Solitaria).
6. GREGORIAN CALENDAR. The number of months containing exactly 30 days MULTIPLIED BY The number of days in June EQUALS:

Answer: The number of hours in 5 complete days

There are 4 months each year containing 30 days (April, June, September and November) and there are therefore 30 days in the month of June (4 * 30 = 120).

The correct answer is 5 days (5 * 24 hours = 120 hours). 4 days = 96 hours, 6 days = 144 hours and 7 days = 168 hours.
7. (APPROXIMATE!) PRONUNCIATION. The German word for "no" MINUS The French word for "all" EQUALS:

Answer: A river on the English - Welsh border

The German word for "no" is "nein" (pronounced "9") and the French word for "all" is "tout" (pronounced "2") (9 - 2 = 7). The River Severn ("7") originates in the Cambrian Mountains in Wales and flows through important English towns and cities such as Shrewsbury, Gloucester and Worcester before forming an estuary as it flows into the Bristol Channel, eventually entering the Atlantic Ocean.
8. INTERNATIONAL DIALLING CODES. The dialling code for the United Kingdom PLUS The dialling code for Germany EQUALS:

11. GEOMETRIC SHAPES. The number of sides on a rhombus MULTIPLIED BY The number of sides on a scalene triangle EQUALS:
