Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the patient in the electronic Milton Bradley game of "Operation"?

Answer: Cavity Sam

Cavity Sam made his debut in 1965. Milton Bradley also has a recently updated "Brain Surgery" version of this game in which players retreive items from Sam's head.
2. Which of the following statements about Henry Ford is false?

Answer: He invented the assembly line.

While Henry Ford was most likely the first to use a MOVING assembly line, the concept of the assembly line (which Ford also perfected) had been around for a while. The other three are true. Though he later retracted the statements, Ford harbored anti-semitic views. Ford opposed U.S. involvement in WWI and went to Europe with over 150 others (without diplomatic license) to try to stop the war.

He founded the Ford Motor Company in 1903.
3. In badminton what is it called when a player returns the shuttle using all or part of the frame or handle on their racket?

Answer: wood shot

This play was deemed legal in 1963. If the player rests the shuttle on the racket and then returns it, then it is a fault (illegal move). Who knew badminton could be so interesting?
4. What television show was the first to feature a pre-recorded laugh track?

Answer: The Hank McCune Show

Unfortunately the laughter of the viewers was not as strong as that of the laugh track on this groundbreaking, but short-lived show. It appeared on NBC for one season in 1950 (though it derived from a 1949 TV show in Los Angeles). "The Colgate Comedy Hour" was the first to be broadcast in color.
5. What group of people govern in a 'capelocracy'

Answer: shopkeepers

Shopkeepers are the ones who are in charge in a capelocracy. Saints are those who run a hagiarchy. A plutocracy is government by the wealthy. There is no official term for rulership by pet owners.
6. What NFL record was established by the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants on November 27, 1966?

Answer: Most combined touchdowns

The Washington Redskins scored 10 touchdowns, and the Giants scored 6 of them. The previous record was 14 combined touchdowns, which was previously done three times before.
7. How much did Sputnik weigh when it was launched in October, 1957?

Answer: 184 pounds

Modern satellites weigh many times more than Sputnik's 184 pounds. At the time of launch however many people were surprised that an object that heavy could be orbiting Earth.
8. Who was the first American female author to win the Nobel prize for literature?

Answer: Pearl Buck

Pearl Buck was born in West Virginia in 1892. Her parents moved back to China when she was three months old. Pearl won the Nobel prize in 1938, not for any particular work, but as in the words from the Nobel commitee "for her rich and truly epic descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical masterpieces".

She moved between the United States and China several times. She died in the state of Pennsylvania in 1973.
9. What is the missing word in this Nintendo Gamecube title? "Billy Hatcher and the Giant _____"

Answer: egg

Billy Hatcher was developed by the same creative people as Sonic the Hedgehog. In this game you roll around and hatch eggs to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. While this may not sound interesting or original, it is, and it is a quite entertaining game.
10. The "dzo" is a crossbreed of which two animals?

Answer: cow and yak

The male offspring off the cow/yak union are sterile, while the females remain fertile.
