Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As a colour, which of these best describes 'rust'?

Answer: Red

More of a reddish-brown colour, rust can vary from burnt sunrise orange to midday yellow. Its name comes from the oxidation process of iron.
2. Where would you most likely be if you were to see a 'rusticle'?

Answer: Underwater

Indeed, a rusticle is a formation of oxidised iron in the shape an icicle. The best example to think of is the underwater footage of the Titanic.
3. 'Rustic' best describes a person living where?

Answer: The countryside

Rustic does mean having characteristics of the countryside; that is, a rural, simple unrefined way of life. I wonder if I fall under that category?
4. Cocktails: what are the two main ingredients found in a 'Rusty Nail'?

Answer: Drambuie and whiskey

Despite being something of a namesake, a Rusty Nail is by any standards an acquired taste. Scotch Whisky is typically used.
5. What would you be leaving if you were 'rusticated'?

Answer: College

Rusticated means to be forced to leave college or university, leaving a seat of learning to go back home to the country to lead a 'rustic' lifestyle. I should know, it happened to me. Rustic_les was rusticated.
6. 'Rust Never Sleeps' was a 1979 album by whom?

Answer: Neil Young

This was a great album by Neil Young and Crazy Horse. It was followed up later that year with an album called 'Live Rust'.
7. The 'Rust Belt' primarily affects which region of the United States?

Answer: Northeast

Though not exclusively linked to this area, it is here where the once mighty steel industries had to adapt to a changing environment with the catastrophic loss of jobs and employment.
8. 'Rust' was a 2010 film by whom?

Answer: Corbin Bernsen

All actors are known for their roles in 'LA Law'. This film primarily dealt with small town friendships and relationships.
9. What would be another name for 'rust'?

Answer: Iron Oxide

Iron Oxide or Ferric Oxide is what scientists call rust. It has the chemical formula Fe2O3.
10. 'Myrtle Rust': what is it?

Answer: A fungus

Myrtle Rust (Uredo rangelli) was discovered in New South Wales, Australia in 2010. It leaves bright yellow spores on plants and is mostly fatal to the plants.
