1. Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, or more precisely, Bushell Park, Saskatchewan, is home to a Canadian Forces Base which has a precision aerobatic and flight demonstration team. What is this team called?

Answer: The Snowbirds

The Snowbirds are officially known as The Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron. The show team flies CT-114 Tutors. They have flown for over one hundred million spectators across North America.

Answer: Rouleau

Rouleau is a little town between Moose Jaw and Weyburn. The town's grain elevator has been changed to read "Dog River", rather than Rouleau, as this is the name of the fictional town where the road side gas station is located. It is a show depicting rural life in Saskatchewan.

It was created by, and features comedian Brent Butt. Butt's home town is Tisdale, Saskatchewan. It airs on CTV in Canada, SBS in Australia and WGN in the United States. It is worth watching if you get the chance.

Answer: Willow Bunch

The Willow Bunch Giant, Edouard Beaupre was born in 1881 and died in 1904. He was a normal size at birth and up until three years of age. He started growing rapidly and by the age of nine, he was six feet tall! At 17, he was 7'1". In 1902, he was almost 8'3" and weighed close to 400 pounds.

He loved horses, but had to give up riding, because his feet touched the ground on even the biggest horse. He decided to use his height and strength to support his family and started lifting rather than riding horses and went on to star in the circus.

He was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1902 and died in 1904 at the age of 23. His death certificate showed that he was 8'3" and doctors said he was still growing.

Answer: Chief Sitting Bull

In the year following the Battle of the Little Bighorn, American soldiers continued to pursue Sitting Bull and his people. In May of 1877, they fled to Wood Mountain in Saskatchewan. Chief Sitting Bull met with Major James Walsh of the Northwest Mounted Police at what is known today as Fort Walsh, Saskatchewan, near Cypress Hills.

Although Sitting Bull and Walsh had many disagreements and differences of opinion, they became friends and Sitting Bull considered Walsh the most trustworthy "white man" he ever knew.

In 1881, due to starvation and cold, Sitting Bull and his people of the Sioux tribe, were forced to return to the United States and surrender.
8. Where in Saskatchewan is the famous tuberculosis sanitarium located?

Answer: Fort Qu'Appelle

In 1917, the provincial Department of Health opened a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan in the Qu'Appelle Valley and named it Fort San. It was a self-sufficient community with its own five acre garden, stables, power station and poultry ranch.

It could accommodate 358 patients. It ran until the mid 1960s, but shut down when the number of TB cases decreased and there was no longer a need for it. Fort San has since been used for a school of arts, military training and conference facilities.

It is said to be haunted as well! I went on a "Ghost Tour" there one night, but didn't encounter anything of the supernatural!

Answer: Football player Neil "Piffles" Taylor

"Piffles" Taylor played in the Regina Ruby Club. He left to fight in World War I, lost an eye in battle and then returned to Saskatchewan to play football. In the late 90s it was changed to "Rock in the Valley" and for a few years hosted Rock and Roll stars rather than country. In 2005, it became the "Craven Country Jamboree"! "Back to our Boots!"
Many, many famous country singers have performed there, including Kenny Rogers, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and in most recent years, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and Reba McEntire have been the headliners.
