Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You know you're Canadian, eh! - if you do an all over body shudder at the mention of Buckley's. What is Buckley's?

Answer: Buckley's is a cough syrup.

Personally I think that Buckley's smells like a horse and tastes like turpentine. This could be because Buckley's make their cough syrup from herbal ingredients such as camphor, menthol, balsam, pine needle oil, capsicum and they use no sugar. Their catch phrase is "It tastes awful, and it works." has served to catch the public interest.
2. You know you're Canadian, eh! - if you understand, let's get a 2-4. What are you planning on getting?

Answer: A case of beer

A 2-4 is slang that refers to the size of a case of beer, a 2-4 is a 24 pack. You can buy a case of beer in a 2-4, a 18 pack, a 12 pack, a 6 pack and a king-can. There are other sizes available but these are the most popular.
3. You know you're Canadian, eh! - when you are asked if you have a loonie. What do you hand them?

Answer: A Canadian one dollar coin

The loonie was first put into circulation in Canada on June 30, 1987. It is a bronze plated coin, about three centimeters in diameter, that has the image of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and a loon in water on the other.
4. You know you're a Canadian, eh! - when you make plans to go fishing on May 2-4. Do you know what May 24 is?

Answer: Long weekend in May

The May 2-4 is a long weekend that falls on the last Monday closest to the 24th in May. I actually had to look at a calender to see that we are celebrating Victoria Day. May 24th was Queen Victoria's birthday, so on the last Monday before May 25th, Canadians get a holiday.
5. You know you're Canadian, eh! - when you ask your husband to pick you up a four litre bag - a four litre bag of what?

Answer: A bag of milk

You can buy a four litre bag of milk at just about any convenience, grocery, or corner store. However, our four litre bag of milk can come in three individual bags of milk packed in a bag. Other sizes are available and are generally sold in cartons.
6. You know you're Canadian, eh! - when you've heard of Stompin' Tom Connors. What or who is Stompin' Tom Connors?

Answer: Canadian singer

A famous Canadian singer, Stompin' Tom Connors sings in Canada about Canada. During his career he has remained patriotic in his music. His songs are generally funny, informative, and often about people he has met while travelling across Canada. Some of my favourite Stompin' Tom Connors titles are "Stompin' Tom meets Big Joe Mufferaw", "The North Atlantic Squadron" and "Stompin' Tom and the Hockey Song".
7. You know you're Canadian, eh! - when you wonder why the QEW is rather slow. What is the QEW?

Answer: A popular highway.

Queen Elizabeth Way is a popular highway that runs from Fort Erie to Toronto, Ontario. The QEW connects to many junctions of the 400 series such as the 406 which connects to downtown St. Catharines, Ontario. In 1939 when the QEW opened, it was named for the wife of King George VI, more commonly known as the Queen Mother.
8. You know you're Canadian, eh! - when you feel like getting a poutine. If you ordered a poutine what would you get?

Answer: A dish made with potatoes, cheese, and gravy

The poutine originated in Quebec, and spread to the rest of Canada. This delicious dish is made by putting cheese curds and gravy over French fries. I remember my mom telling me that the first poutine she had, in Quebec around 1962, had barbecued chicken gravy poured all over it.
9. You know you're Canadian, eh! - when you know what a zed is. Where would you find a zed?

Answer: The alphabet

The last letter of the alphabet is usually pronounced "zed" by most Canadians as that is the British pronunciation.
10. You know you're Canadian, eh! - when it is only about 40 clicks. What is a click?

Answer: A kilometer

The metric system was first introduced in Canada in 1970 by Pierre Trudeau. By 1977 all road signs across Canada were to have been changed from the imperial system to the metric system. A kilometer got the nickname of a click, so 40 kilometers would be 24.8 miles.
