Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the western outlaw times, which law enforcement official had the nickname, "Bat"?

Answer: William Masterson

William 'Bat' Masterson, was the sheriff of Ford County, Kansas. He earned the nickname because he hit more lawbreakers over the head with his cane, than he shot with his gun. William Bonny was nicknamed 'Billy the Kid'. John Holliday was the famous 'Doc' Holliday, who was a professional dentist, then became a gunslinger. Robert LeRoy Parker was one piece of a famous duo, 'Butch Cassidy'.
2. In which year was the first patent made on the Ouija Board?

Answer: 1892

William and Isaac Fuld made the first Ouija Board at their toy company in Maryland in 1890. 'Oui' and 'ja' were French and German words for "yes", so they printed this across the top of the board. In 1967, Parker Brothers Company purchased the rights to the board.
3. Which 1960s television show, had a character named Will Robinson?

Answer: Lost in Space

Lost in Space was a science fiction show which starred Guy Williams (Zorro), June Lockhart (Lassie), Bill Mumy, and others. It also featured a robot, whose famous line was, 'Danger, danger' and 'Warning, Warning'. The show went into syndication after many years of production.
4. In the process of ancient mummification, what was packed into the body to dry it out?

Answer: cedar oil and natron

Cedar oil and natron, similar to turpentine, was used in the process. It would take 40-70 days for the body to completely dry out. Although 'prune-looking' after this process, the body was then filled with sawdust, pottery, cloth, and anything else to fill the cavities up to make it look more human-like.
5. Which did 'Mysterios', 'Kream Crunch', 'Sugar Smiles', and 'Ooops', all have in common?

Answer: They were all cereals that were a big flop

Along with 'Day-O', Kellogg's Corn Crackos, and Peach Crunch, these were all cereals that experienced poor marketing techniques, and were yanked from further production without really getting off the ground. Peach Crunch was a spin-off of the famous Cap'n Crunch cereal made by Quaker Oats.
6. In 1971, Gerald Mayo filed suit in a U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania, and the word quickly spread around the world. Who did he file suit against?

Answer: Satan and his staff

Mayo filed a suit against Satan and his staff, claiming that he induced misery and unwarranted threats against him. He claimed that Satan deprived him of his constitutional rights. The case was eventually thrown out of court because Mayo failed to give the U.S. Marshal instructions on how to serve Satan with a subpoena, and could not prove that Satan lived within the jurisdiction of the court.
7. In the 20th century, which of these U.S. coins was the only one to have the head facing to the right?

Answer: Lincoln head penny

All coins with heads faced to the left with the exception of the Lincoln penny. The penny was issued for the first time in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth. President Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.
8. According to columnist Ann Landers, which was the most controversial issue that she encountered with her readers?

Answer: Whether toilet paper should come over the top of the roll or not

The duty paper was the most controversial amongst these. Ms. Landers stated that the paper should come over the top, due to some paper having designs that would appear right side up in that position.
9. From the Major League to the Minors, down to the Little League, and further down to Tee Ball. When was Tee Ball invented?

Answer: 1960

Tee Ball is where youngsters just learning the game (approximately five years old and up), use a stand to place the ball on to hit. This alleviates the use of a pitcher, who at that age usually has no control whatsoever. Tee Ball was invented by Dayton Hobbs in Bagdad, Florida.
10. What was introduced to the Indianapolis 500 in 1911, that no other previous auto race had?

Answer: Rear-view mirrors

For a number of years, a passenger, or lookout, had already been used in previous auto races. In 1911, the inventor of the rear-view mirror raced his car and won the race. Other drivers filed a protest stating that he had a lighter weight advantage with no passenger, but the rules did not mandate a passenger in 1911.
