1. In which century did the European Thirty Years War take place?

Answer: 17th

It was actually a series of wars that involved pretty much all of Europe. Originally based on religious differences, the main thread of the war was the struggle between the House of Habsburg and its allies against several international opponents. It began with the Bohemian revolt against the Habsburgs (1618-1621) and ended in 1648 with the Peace of Westphalia.
2. What is the other name for the 30th wedding anniversary?

Answer: Pearl

A traditional 30th anniversary gift would of course be pearls; a more contemporary gift would be diamond jewellery.
3. Which geometrical body has 30 edges?

Answer: Dodecahedron

It has twelve faces, each with five sides. An icosahedron also has thirty edges, but twenty triangular faces.
4. When was the show "Thirtysomething" first aired?

Answer: 1987

The show ran from 1987 to 1991. An interesting little tidbit is the number of "crossover" actors who appeared both on "Thirtysomething" and different "Star Trek" series. For example, Timothy Carhart played Matt Enwright on "Thirtysomething" and Lieutenant Commander Christopher Hobson on STNG, "Redemption" episode. Nana Visitor, better known as Lieutenant Kira on DS9, appeared as Mile's fiancee Cindy in the "Success" episode of "Thirtysomething".
5. Which volcano erupted spectacularly in 1930?

Answer: Mt. Stromboli

Stromboli has the longest recorded history of eruptions of all volcanoes; 2,500 years at least and some say as long as 5,000 years. The eruption of 11. September 1930 was the most violent and destructive in its history. Both the island and the volcano are named Stromboli. The island belongs to the Aeolian islands chain in Italy.

William Faulkner wrote this novel in 1929. It was not made into a movie until 1959. Chronicling the downfall of the Compson family through the eyes of four different narrators, many critics (and Faulkner himself) considered it the best novel he ever wrote.
10. Who was the 30th US president?

Answer: Calvin Coolidge

As vice-president to Warren Harding he succeeded Harding in 1923 and was subsequently elected to a full term as president in 1924. He declined to run again in 1928.
