Dan Rowan and Dick Martin teamed up together to do an American sketch comedy television program which became known as "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In". The program aired from 1968-1973 and ran for 140 episodes. It was on this program that Goldie Hawn got her big break and rose to fame.

The Punch and Judy puppet show dates back to the 16th Century in Italy. It is usually a violent puppet show with Pulcinella (Mr. Punch) and his wife Judy. Punch and Judy made their first appearance in the UK in May 1662. The characters have appeared in movies, games, literature and videos.

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led an expedition which was the first to cross the western portion of the United States. With a group made up of U.S. Army volunteers they left Missouri in May 1804 and sighted the Pacific Ocean in November 1805. They returned to St Louis to report their findings in September 1806.

Romulus and Remus were twin brothers. In Roman mythology they were responsible for the founding of Rome and Romulus was the founder of the Roman Kingdom. The myth of Romulus and Remus continues today as the symbol of the city of Rome is the image of the twins being suckled by a she-wolf.

Siegfried & Roy are a German-American duo of entertainers and magicians who were known for their acts with white lions and tigers at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn were both born and raised in Germany. Both immigrated to the USA and became naturalised citizens. During a show in Las Vegas in 2003 Roy Horn was severely attacked by a white tiger which ended his career.

Ken and Barbie are toy dolls and Ken is the fictional boyfriend of Barbie. Ken was introduced by the American multinational toy manufacturer Mattel in 1961. Barbie was introduced in 1959. The myth is that Ken and Barbie met on a TV commercial set in 1961.

Ozzie and Harriet Nelson starred in a TV sitcom called "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" (1952-1966). The show was the real life Nelson family with their two sons David and Eric "Ricky" Nelson. Ozzie Nelson (1906-1975) was a bandleader, actor, director and producer. Harriet Nelson (1909-1994) was a singer and actress. Ricky Nelson (1940-1985) was an actor, singer and songwriter. David Nelson (1936-2011) was an actor, director and producer.
10. Martin

Martin and Lewis were a comedy duo made up of Dean Martin (1917-1995) and Jerry Lewis. Martin was a nightclub singer and Lewis was a comedian. They met in 1945 and on July 25, 1946 they teamed up together with the duo act that lasted ten years to the day.
After the duo split up Martin continued a successful singing and movie career. Lewis continued to make comedy films. Jerry Lewis hosted the Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy Association from 1966-2010.
11. Maria

Maria and Tony and the two main characters of the musical "West Side Story". It was inspired by the William Shakespeare play "Romeo and Juliet". The story is about two New York ethnic street gangs of the 1950s being the Sharks (from Puerto Rico) and the Jets (a white gang). Tony, a former member of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, who is the sister of the leader of the Sharks. The show first appeared on Broadway in 1957 and was made into a movie in 1961 with Natalie Wood as Maria and Richard Beymer as Tony. The movie won ten Academy Awards.
12. Chip

Chip and Dale are two chipmunks created as cartoon characters by Walt Disney studios in 1943. The name came about as a pun on the 18th century cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale. Chip is the schemer and Dale is goofy and dim-witted. In many of their cartoons they are antagonists of Pluto and Donald Duck.
13. Abbott

Abbott and Costello was a duo comedy act made up of William "Bud" Abbott (1897-1974) and Lou Costello (1906-1959). They first worked together in 1935 and appeared in vaudeville, stage, radio, film and television. They were one of the most popular comedy teams of the 1940s and 1950s. In the 1950s the comedy team of Martin and Lewis gradually took over popularity from Abbott and Costello.
14. Simon

Simon & Garfunkel were an American folk rock duo made up of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. They had huge success in the 1960s with hits such as "The Sound of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson" and "Bridge over Troubled Waters". They first met and started harmonizing and writing music under the name of Tom & Jerry.
In 1963 they signed with Columbia Records and changed their name to Simon & Garfunkel.
15. Jack

"Jack and the Beanstalk" is an English fairy tale. Jack is a poor boy living with his widowed mother and needs to sell the cow which is their only source of income. On the way to the market he meets a man who swaps the cow for some magic beans. When returning home his mother is furious that he got beans instead of money. That night the magic beans cause a gigantic beanstalk to grow. Jack climbs the beanstalk and comes across its magical powers. Thus begins many adventures for Jack.
The tale was first published in 1734, however, it is estimated through research that the story originated over 5,000 years ago.
