Johnny Kidd was a pop artist along with his backing band 'The Pirates', the other three were all disc jockeys on pirate radio stations - Tony Blackburn, Radio Caroline 1964, Kenny Everett and Dave Cash, Radio London 1964.

Ready Steady Go was hosted by Cathy McGowan from 1963-66. 'Juke Box Jury', hosted by David Jacobs was known for the 'Hit or Miss' bell and buzzer, Janice Nicholls rose to fame on 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' with the phrase 'Oi'll give it foive' spoken in her Black Country accent while Sandie Shaw and Kathy Kirby both appeared on the children's teatime programme 'The Five o'Clock Club'.

Mary Quant opened the Bazaar boutique on King's Road, Chelsea in 1955, but it was not until 1965, after taking the designs of Courreges' 1964 skirts and making them even shorter, that Mary and Bazaar became well known. The daisy flower was her logo.

Eddie Cochrane, his girlfriend Sharon Sheeley and Gene Vincent were heading for London Airport at the end of a successful UK tour when their taxi was involved in an accident in Chippenham, Wiltshire on April 17th 1960. Cochrane was killed, Sharon seriously injured (she made a full recovery) and Gene Vincent also sustained serious injury that left him with a lifelong limp.

He died aged 36 in 1971.

'Telstar' was written by Joe Meek by way of a tribute to the Telstar satellite which transmitted the first television pictures across the Atlantic in July 1962. The record (B side 'Jungle Fever') entered the British charts in August 1962 and remained there for 25 weeks - five of those weeks at number one.

Originally called 'Gerry Marsdens Skiffle Group', the name was changed to 'Gerry and the Mars Bars' when he was 16 years old. The chocolate company Mars refused to allow this and so 'Gerry and the Pacemakers' came into being. Their numerous hits include 'I'm the One', 'Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying' and 'Ferry 'cross the Mersey'.
