America declared independence in 1776 - MDCCLXXVI. However, the American Revolutionary War did not end until 1783 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
2. Which of the following Roman numerals does not contain a zero when converted to decimal?

Answer: LV

The Romans had no numeral for zero. Instead it is believed that they used the word nulla or nusquam meaning nothing. LV converts to 55. CL is 150. MDM is 1,500, L is 50.
3. What is the result if you add the following: - the number of the shirt retired by the Yankees in honour of Babe Ruth - the international dialling code for Canada - the Microsoft offering that preceded Windows 98?

Answer: XCIX

The Yankees retired the number 3 shirt in honour of Babe Ruth in 1948. The international dialling code for Canada is the same as for the USA which is 1. Microsoft Windows 95 preceded Windows 98. Therefore 3 + 1 + 95 = 99 which converts as XCIX.
