Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these lakes is NOT known as one of the four lakes of Madison?

Answer: Lake Wingra

The four lakes of Madison are all connected by the Yahara River. From north to south, they are Lake Mendota, Monona, Waubesa, and Kegonsa. The last two lie just to the south of Madison, but are still considered two of Madison's four lakes. Lake Wingra, however, is in Madison proper, but the Yahara River does not flow through it.
2. Which of these is true of the Isthmus area of Madison?

Answer: The Wisconsin State Capitol building is located there

As Madison is the capital of Wisconsin, the State Capitol building is located there. It lies in the Isthmus area at 2 E Main St, Madison, WI 53703.

Most of the UW-Madison campus is located immediately west of the Isthmus area. The Isthmus area is not undeveloped, as it is the downtown area of Madison and has a high concentration of apartments, entertainment venues, restaurants, etc. There is no Town of Fitchburg, but the city of Fitchburg is a suburb to the south of Madison.

Answer: South-Central

Madison is located in South-Central Wisconsin about an hour's drive north of the border with Illinois. It is about 90 miles west of Milwaukee, the largest city in Southeast Wisconsin.

6. What is the name of the main pedestrian street in downtown Madison which holds many bars, restaurants, shops, and other businesses?

Answer: State Street

The street is mostly limited to pedestrian traffic, and is now a two-lane road after previously being a four-lane one. It is located between UW-Madison's Library Mall and the Capitol building.
