Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There once was a boy from Dallas Who dreamed of going to West Allis He flew in to a city That isn't itty-bitty To where did he fly in via kalous? (A kalous is an owl, for that matter.)

Answer: Milwaukee

Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin, and hosts the Wisconsin State Fair. The fair, though, is actually held in West Allis, a suburb of Milwaukee.

The state fair is held for 11 days in August each year, and has many exhibits, some of the grand champion winners from all the counties across Wisconsin, and an open division of several different categories.

The fair itself is famous for its cream puffs, but also has many, many small stands to buy things from. There's even a building that sells different Wisconsin products, such as baked potatoes, grilled cheese, and ice cream. And you can walk the mile under the grandstands for the racetrack for a souvenir shopping center.
2. I have always had an affinity For something that measures Infinity So in my defense It only makes sense To go to where that is part of a trinity? (Of buildings, that is!)

Answer: The House on the Rock

One of the hints within the clue was the word Infinity, especially as it was capitalized. The Infinity Room is part of the house of the House on the Rock. There is also a Resort and the Inn that complete the trio of buildings mentioned in the last line.

The Infinity Room itself holds over 3,000 windows and stretches into the air for a length of 218 feet and 156 feet above the ground - and that's without any supports more than the floor of the room!

The House on the Rock itself was designed by Alex Jordan, Jr., and construction began in 1945. The entire house was finished by 1959.

There is a fairly well-spread story about the origin of the house, in which Jordan met with Frank Lloyd Wright. In the story, Wright scorned Jordan, saying that he wouldn't trust him to build anything. Supposedly, out of spite, Jordan pointed to the spire the house currently sits atop and said, "I'm going to put up a Japanese house on one of those pinnacle rocks and advertise it." This story, however, was proved false, as when the exchange was said to have taken place, Jordan was only nine years old and Wright was in Japan.
3. There are many tales of giant fish The "one that got away"; they wish! Here is a tale That will never grow stale What is the fish never made to a dish?

Answer: The Big Muskie

The Big Muskie is a five-story-tall fish and is 143 feet long - that's as long as a Boeing 747! It's made from fiberglass, and tourists and locals can climb up the fish to its mouth, where there is a viewing platform.

The word "muskie" is short for muskellunge, the true name of this fish. It is sometimes confused with a northern pike, but a muskie is identifiable by dark, vertical stripes on a light-colored body. A northern (as many in Wisconsin shorten it to) is a dark body with light spots. Muskie are also very elusive fish, and many fishermen flock to the northern part of Wisconsin to try and find it.
4. The next place is to the Valley of the Elves Where they often keep to themselves It's named after a country And very nice and sundry But where might you go for some time to yourselves?

Answer: Little Norway

The Norwegian word "Niessedahle" means Valley of the Elves. Little Norway is situated in Blue Mounds, which is where Niessedahle is located.

This attraction was originally the farm to Norwegian immigrants Osten and Birgit Haugen. In modern times, it has been run by their descendants as a part of Wisconsin history.

If you do go there, which I highly recommend, be sure to watch out for the elves! They really are everywhere down there...or maybe those are gnomes...
5. This next place is really rather famous And only barely a bit dangerous It's a place to be wet And is time well met He's also a Bible man quite wondrous. What's the name of the famous park, if you don't mind?

Answer: Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark is located in Wisconsin Dells, one of the larger cities in central Wisconsin. The Noah's Ark also boasts itself to be America's Largest Waterpark.

Noah's Ark is one of several other theme and water parks in the Dells. Other parks include Mount Olympus Water and Theme Park and Riverview Park and Waterworld. However, Noah's Ark is the only water and theme park that is mostly, if not entirely, water.
6. As I was headed down to Baraboo I met a man hauling caribou I told him, "To the circus!" But he thought it ludicrous And said, "I don't know which one! Adieu!" Which circus museum do I want to go to?

Answer: Circus World

The Circus World museum is devoted to circus history, and is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin. It was a participant in the Great Circus Parade, held in Madison, Wisconsin, from 1985 to 2005. They hauled different circus artifacts by train.

The reason the museum is in Baraboo is because of five brothers. Albert, Otto, Alfred, Charles, and John Ringling were born in Baraboo, and the five of them began a backyard circus as children. When they grew up, they never stopped, and the Ringling Brothers Circus was born.

Another reason the museum can be found in Wisconsin is because there are many, many circuses that either got their start in the state, or wintered in Wisconsin (which seems counterproductive, as Wisconsin is notorious for cold, snowy winters).
7. I know a great place Where there's no need to race With a constant temperature It's a great adventure But where to go to mine for gems like an ace?

Answer: Cave of the Mounds

The Cave of the Mounds is located in Blue Mounds, WI, just twenty miles west of Madison. The temperature of the underground caves is usually at fifty degrees Fahrenheit, or ten degrees Celsius. It's very nice to go when it's hot. Besides taking a tour of the caves, visitors can mine for gemstones or dig for fossils.
8. World War II saw rise of the Duck Just not the ones that run amok Now they're a tour And are found while at moor Where do you find ducks that don't cluck? (That's not to say that any of them do, but it's the principle of the thing, really.)

Answer: Wisconsin Dells

The Ducks were first used in World War II, and were known as DUKWs. A Duck is a six-wheeled vehicle that is able to drive in water, which was a huge advantage in the Pacific Islands and the storming of Normandy on D-Day. They also easily drove over land, further increasing their worth.

The reason why it was called a DUKW is not because of a military acronym, but by how it was named by GMC, the makers of the DUKW. The letters stand for:

D: meaning it was made in 1942
U: utility
K: driven front wheels
W: two powered rear axles.

Over the years, the acronym has been explained wrongly by different writers, including Daniel Clarke. In particular, Clarke thought it stood for "Duplex Universal Karrier, Wheeled".

Now, however, the Ducks are used to give tours over land and water in and around Lake Delton.
9. Many things can make a museum For example, the Coliseum But don't tell me air Is unimportant to bear And where do we find EAA museum?

Answer: Oshkosh

The EAA AirVenture Museum is found in Oshkosh, WI. Oshkosh is also the home of the EAA Air Show, held annually. The museum has over 200 airplanes alone, spread through several different exhibits, along with four movie theaters and an airplane ride.
10. But finally, we cannot go Without one last thing to show Have a great night Be sure to sleep tight But tell me what city meant when we say, "Go Pack Go!"

Answer: Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers could be considered Wisconsin's most famous sports team, and play American football in the Northern division of the NFC. They are the only fan-owned football team in the United States. The Packers colors are green and gold, and they play in Lambeau Field.

They also have the tradition of naming streets and stadiums after their more notable coaches. These include Vince Lombardi, Earl Louis "Curly" Lambeau, Mike Holgren, and Mike McCarthy, the current coach.
