Oshkosh (or Os-kosh) was the chief of the Menominee Nation in the mid 1800's. There is no record I can find of why the city was named after him, but his support of the United States in the Black Hawk War of 1832 and his participation of treaty negotiations made him a famous and respected figure in the area.

Also known as the Experimental Aircraft Association Convention and Fly-In, and the Oshkosh Airshow, it is billed as "The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration". Pilots and airplane enthusiasts from over 100 countries come to Oshkosh for this event. Over 10,000 private airplanes fly into the Oshkosh and surrounding airports for a week every summer, making the Oshkosh Wittman Field control tower the busiest in the world during the event. Hundreds of vintage WW II aircraft fly in the airshow.
