Chennai was previously called Madras. It lies in the eastern coast of the southern state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the earliest metropolitans in the country and is the biggest city in the state. It is a coastal city which boasts many beaches. The ECR or East Coast Road that links Chennai to Mamallapuram and Pondicherry is a brilliant road that is laid along the coast of Tamil Nadu.
