The Portuguese established themselves at this location due to the active slave trade. Between the years of 1641-1648, the Dutch, along with local tribes, took over the Portuguese held area.

Answer: True

Due to its booming oil industry, Angola was made a member of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) in 2007. It left the organization in January of 2024.
3. What three colors are on Angola's flag?

Answer: Red, Black, Gold

The red upper half of the flag represents the blood of the Angolans killed in conflicts, the black represents the African continent, the semicircular gold cogwheel in the center represents industry, the gold machete cutting across the cogwheel in the black half of the flag represents peasantry, and the gold star inside near the top of the cogwheel in the red half of the flag is modeled after the star on the flag of the former Soviet Union.

The machete and cogwheel were put onto the flag when Angola had a Marxist government, the machete and cogwheel mimicking the hammer and sickle on the Soviet flag.
