Niger (12670000 sq. km) is the second-largest landlocked African nation, located in the west, bordered by seven countries: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Libya, Mali, and Nigeria.

Mali (1240192 sq. km) is the third-largest landlocked African nation, located in the west, bordered by seven countries: Algeria (north-northeast), Niger (east), Burkina Faso (south-east), Ivory Coast (south), Guinea (south-west), Senegal (west) and Mauritania (north-west).

Ethiopia (1104300 sq. km) is the most populated landlocked Africa nation. In 1991, after Eritrea declared its independence, Ethiopia was cut off from the Red Sea. Ethiopia is bordered by seven countries: Somalia, Somaliland (unrecognized sovereign state), Djibouti, Kenya, Eritrea, Sudan and South Sudan.

In 2011, South Sudan (644329 sq km) declared independence from Sudan, losing its border to the Red Sea. Located in east Africa, it is bordered by six countries: Ethiopia, Sudan, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Uganda, and Kenya.

Central African Republic (620000 sq. km) is bordered by six countries: Chad (north) Sudan (north-east), South Sudan (east), DR Congo (south), Republic of the Congo (south-west), and Cameroon (west).

Burkina Faso (274200 sq. km) is located in west Africa, bordered by six countries: Mali (north-west), Niger (north-east), Benin (south-east), Togo (south), Ghana (south) and Ivory Coast (west).

Uganda (241550 sq. km) is located in east Africa, bordered by five countries: Kenya (east), South Sudan (north), DR Congo (west), Rwanda (south-west), and Tanzania (south). The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania.

Rwanda (26338 sq km) is located in the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa. The country is bordered by four countries: Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and DR Congo.

Burundi (27834 sq km) is located in the Great Rift Valley and is bordered by three countries: Rwanda, Tanzania and DR Congo. The south-western part of the country is bordered by Lake Tanganyika.

Malawi (118484 sq km) is located in south-eastern Africa and is bordered by three countries: Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique. A large part of the north-east is bordered by Lake Nyasa aka Lake Malawi.

Botswana (581730 sq. km) is located in south Africa, bordered by four countries: South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Zimbabwe (390757 sq. km) is located in south Africa between the Zambesi and Limpopo Rivers, bordered by four countries: South Africa (south) Botswana (southwest and west), Zambia (north) and Mozambique (northeast and east).

Eswatini (17463 sq. km) is the smallest African landlocked nation, bordered by two countries: Mozambique to the east and the rest of the country by South Africa.

Lesotho (30355 sq. km) is an enclave - entirely surrounded by South Africa, lying more than 1000 meters above sea-level.
