Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Especially for all the tourists, we provide you with three official languages in Belgium. Can you give me the outsider?

Answer: English

Don't panic, most of the Belgian people do speak English. The "young" people will be able to answer all your questions in English. The northern part of Belgium is Dutch speaking, the southern part speaks French and in the eastern part there's a small German speaking area.
2. What currency will you need in Belgium?

Answer: Euro

Oh yes, we are part of the Eurozone. You will be able to use also Euros in Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City.
3. When arriving by plane, you're most likely to land in which city?

Answer: Brussels

The airport in Brussels is our national airport. It's by far the biggest airport in Belgium. Charleroi is rather small, but very popular because it is used by Ryan Air. Although it's 60 kilometers from Brussels, you might find some naming it "Brussels South". Antwerp is really a regional airport and Bruges doesn't have an airport.
4. When visiting our capital, Brussels, you will be able to see a very famous monument. Can you pick the correct monument from this list?

Answer: Atomium

Built for the World Expo in 1958, the Atomium is a magnification (165 billion times) of an iron 'body-centered cubic' crystal... The height of the construction is 102 meters and six of the nine balls are open for the public (restaurants, congress rooms, ...). Big Ben is in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Spanish steps are in Rome.
5. Although our regular weather isn't that sunny, you might seek some refreshment on the Belgian coast, situated on the eastern side of Belgium.

Answer: False

Belgium has a sixty kilometers coastline with nice sandy beaches, on the western side of Belgium. The rest of Belgium is completely landlocked between The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany and France.
6. This city is very famous and is one of those known as "the Venice of the north". It was, together with Salamanca, the European Cultural City of 2002. When walking around, you feel like going way back in time with all the ancient buildings like the town hall from 1376. Where should you go?

Answer: Bruges

Also famous are the convent, the "Lake of Love", the Holy-Blood Chapel, and so on... Really, you will find anything your heart desires here. Bruges is very touristic, so you can take a bunch of guided tours with a boat, with horses, with bicycles and even by foot.
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, Antwerp is another beautifully old Belgian city and Brussels is our capital.

Answer: Leuven

The regular population of this town is around 25000 people. During college year, that amount is more then doubled during the week. (most students live there during the week and go home in the weekends)
Besides the university buildings there are a lot of other beautiful buildings, like the town hall that is impressive to see. In August there are also three days with concerts in the city (on different squares), called "Marktrock". The 20th edition in 2002 attracted over 400,000 people!
