Answer: River Lee

The River Lee rises in the Shehy Mountains and flows through Cork City. It splits into 2 channels as it flows through the city and unites again before entering into the Celtic Sea.
2. In 1993 the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Co. Cork. Do you know in what town or city it was held in?

Answer: Millstreet

The 38th Eurovision Song Contest was held in Millstreet on May 15th 1993. Niamh Kavanagh singing for Ireland won the contest, marginally beating the United Kingdom into 2nd place and Switzerland into 3rd place.
3. On 1 August 1980 there was a train crash. Do you know at what station it happened in?

Answer: Buttevant

On August of that year an express train travelling from Dublin to Cork crashed at Buttevant station killing 18 people and injuring more than 70 people. The train entered Buttevant at 115km/h carrying 230 passengers when it crashed into a stationary train.

Mallow is the largest town on the Blackwater Valley and an excellent starting place to explore the neighbourhood. Mallow is known as the Crossroads of Munster and in Irish means Plain of Swans.

Cobh (pronounced Cove) is situated on the Great Island and built on a hill from which beautiful views can be seen. Its name was changed to Queenstown after the visit of Queen Victoria in 1849 but reverted back to Cobh in 1921.

Fastnet Rock is a small island of the coast of Co. Cork. It was so nicknamed Ireland's Teardrop as it was the last piece of Ireland seen by Irish emigrants as they sailed past it. The 'Fastnet' is also a significant event on the yachting calendar and also one of the most treacherous.
