County Westmeath is the sixth largest of the twelve counties in the province of Leinster. It takes its name from the old kingdom and province of Mide.

This lake is also known as Donore Lake and is the centre of the Irish legend "The Children of Lir" It tells the story of the four children of Lir who were turned into swans by Aoife, Lir's second wife and stepmother to the children because she was jealous of the children.

They had to live on the lake for 300 years before spending another 300 years at Sea of Moyle and a further 300 years at the Bay of Erris.

Joe Dolan was born in Mullingar in 1939 and made his stage debut in Mullingar and his first single "The Answer to Everything" was released in 1964. From then on his popularity grew until his death in December 2007 at the
