County Westmeath is the sixth largest of the twelve counties in the province of Leinster. It takes its name from the old kingdom and province of Mide.

Answer: Lough Derravaragh

This lake is also known as Donore Lake and is the centre of the Irish legend "The Children of Lir" It tells the story of the four children of Lir who were turned into swans by Aoife, Lir's second wife and stepmother to the children because she was jealous of the children.

They had to live on the lake for 300 years before spending another 300 years at Sea of Moyle and a further 300 years at the Bay of Erris.

Though not by any means one of the highest points in Ireland, Mullaghmeen is the highest in County Westmeath at about 260 meters high. A forest of beech trees cover the mountain making it the largest planted beech forest in Ireland with an area of about 1000 acres.
