The Galapagos Islands are one of the most amazing places ever, with a multitude of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Unfortunately, many of the species, such as the giant tortoises, are either extinct or endangered.

Answer: Quito, Guayaquil

Quito is the capital of Ecuador, and has two sides-north and south. The northern side of town is the modern section, and the south side is the historic area.

Answer: Ecuadorian sucres and US dollars

In 2000, President Gustavo Noboa made the US dollar legal tender in Ecuador.(25,000 sucres per dollar in 2000) It helped bolster Ecuador's weak economy.

Because of its religion, Ecuador's holidays tend to follow the liturgical calendar. Carnival, before the fasting during Lent, and All Souls' Day, on November 2, are especially festive.

Answer: Podocarpus National Park

Podocarpus has elevations up to 3690 meters, in the premontane section. You can find well-maintained footpaths and beautiful views in that section, too. The lower subtropical section is more remote, but still has many different species of plants and animals. In 1997, a new species of bird, the antpitta, was found there.

Ecuador doesn't have very distinct seasons, because it is located on the equator.
