Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the road that goes next to the water in Nice called?

Answer: Promenade des Anglais

This is the road you see in all the postcards of the beach.
2. Speaking of water, what type of beach are most of Nice's beaches?

Answer: rocky

The sand beaches are man-made. Actually, I prefer the rocks because they don't get in your bathing suit!
3. Nicois is a type of language that is a mixture of French and what other language?

Answer: Italian

I wondered why the street signs were in French and some sort of dialect that looked Italian, but wasn't!
4. There was a chateau in Nice. When was it destroyed?

Answer: 8th century

It's now a nice, green park with a fake waterfall (which is quite pretty).
5. What sort of music festival is Nice famous for?

Answer: Jazz

I saw the Duke Ellington orchestra and James Brown at the 1999 one. The festival has been held at the Roman ruins near the city.
6. What sort of people will you most likely find in Vieux Nice in the summer?

Answer: tourists

That's where they buy all their souvenirs.
7. What type of people will you see on the beach in the winter (according to my penpal)?

Answer: tourists

In the winter, the native French think it's too cold to be at the beach.
8. Why are the beaches deserted in most postcards you find of Nice?

Answer: The skies are prettier in the winter.

The skies are a bright blue in the winter, my penpal told me. So the photographer can either take a picture of a pretty sky or a crowded beach!
9. Why was the one mall named the 'Cap 3000'?

Answer: Because when it opened it had 3000 parking spots.

That's a selling point there as many places don't have many parking spaces.
10. Something strange I noticed was vendors selling ____ from vans parked in the streets around Nice.

Answer: pizza

In the US, we have pizza parlors. In Nice, they have pizza vans!
