Marseille is the oldest city in France, and one of the largest. A popular tourist destination, it has a Mediterranean climate, and has been featured in several movies. The Pharo Gardens, located on the Maure promontory, provides fine views of the Old Port as well as the city itself.

The Phare de Sainte Marie, which was completed in 1855, is no longer in use. The Frioul Archipelago, located in the Bay of Marseille, is home to Chateau d'lf - which was used by Alexandre Dumas as a setting in the 1844 novel "The Count of Monte Cristo". Bouillabaisse is traditionally served not as a single dish, but with the broth, bread and rouille (a creamy garlic sauce) served in one bowl, and the seafood and vegetables served in another bowl.

Nantes is the capital of the Pays de la Loire region. The city's nickname is due to its location at the confluence of the Loire, the Erdre, and the Sevre Rivers. In addition to the bicycles provided by Nantes Metropole, the city has numerous modes of transport - and, in 1826, the city was the first to have an organized bus transit system.

The Place du Commerce is Nantes' main square, but there are several other important squares, including Place Royale and Place Marechal Foch. Dijon was a thriving center of Gothic and early Renaissance arts. It was the birthplace of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923), who designed Dijon's covered marketplace. Called "Lugdunum" in ancient Roman times, and located in east-central France, Lyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in southeastern France, at the foot of the French Alps, Grenoble is encircled by mountains. The Bastille is located on Mount Rachais (the southernmost peak of the Chartreuse mountains), and it overlooks the river and the city. Nice was originally founded by the Greeks around 350 BC, and named 'Nikaia', after the goddess Nike. The city, which is one of the oldest cities of the world, has a Mediterranean climate and has been a popular tourist destination throughout the years due to its mild climate, beauty and clean air. Located parallel to the Promenade of the English is the Pedestrian Zone, which is home to cafes, shops, newsstands, bakeries and assorted businesses.

There are numerous important and appealing sites in Nice, including the Place Garibaldi, the Opera de Nice, the Basilica of Notre-Dame and the St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral.
