This is the highest mountain in the world. It is in the Himalayas on the border between China (Tibet) and Nepal. The Tibetan name is Qomolungma, "the goddess mother of the world". It was first climbed by New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953.

This mountain in the Karakoram Range is the worldsīs second highest. It was first climbed in 1954 by an Italian expedition. The mountain sits on the border of Pakistan and China.

Nepal. The name means "five treasure houses on the great snows". It was first climbed by a British expedition in 1955.

This peak in the Pamirs used to be called Pik Kommunizma from 1961 to 1991. Up to 1933 it was called Garmo Peak. In the Stalin era (1933-61) it was called Pik Stalin. It was first climbed by a Soviet expedition in 1933.

This mountain is the second largest mountain in the Hindu Kush after Tirich Mir (in Pakistan). Itīs situated on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

This mountain is situated in the Central Taiwan ranges, east of the city Chiai.

This is a Japanese volcano, whose last eruption was in 1707. Itīs on the Honshu Island. It has a Shinto shrine and a weather station on its summit. It figures prominently in Japanese art, literature and religion.
