10. Which marsupials, which escaped from a wildlife park in 1965, have bred successfully and are now living in the Manx countryside?

Answer: Wallaby

Wallabies escaped from Curragh's Wildlife Park in Ballaugh in the north of the island in 1965. Their success at survival is probably due to the mild climate of the island and lack of predators or rivals. In September 2018 the population was thought to be between 120 and 150.

They are popular with the general public and tourists although some farmers consider them a pest as they graze pasture and crops and may carry diseases that can be transferred to livestock, particularly horses.
