The mountain known as Denali is the tallest in North America. It rises up to a height of approximately 20,300 ft (6,190 m). The mountain is located in southern central part of the State of Alaska, roughly between the cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks.

The name Denali translates to "the tall one" and comes from the language of the Koyukon people who are native to Alaska. The mountain was given its other name, Mount McKinley, in 1896 after the man who would later be elected the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley.

It is located in the southwest corner of the Yukon Territory near the border with Alaska. The mountain was named after Sir William Edmond Logan (1798-1875) who was the founder and director of the Geological Survey of Canada.

Mount Elbrus is considered to be the tallest mountain in the continent of Europe. It is a dormant volcano that is part of the Caucasus Mountains in Russia, near its border with the country of Georgia. Mount Elbrus is considered to have dual summits. The taller summit is measured at a height of 18,500 ft (5,640 m).

The other one is only about 60 ft (20 m) shorter. It is believed that the name of the mountain came from the extinct Avestan language which was spoken in the region during the Iron Age.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the most prominent mountain formation on the continent of Africa. It is located in northern Tanzania and it is considered to be a dormant volcano with three distinct peaks. The tallest of these peaks is Kibo with an elevation of approximately 19,300 ft (5,900 m). Mawenzi is the second highest with an elevation of approximately 16,900 ft (5,150 m) and Shira is the shortest with an elevation of approximately 13,100 ft (3,990 m).

Mount Whitney can be found within the Sierra Nevada mountain range in central California, roughly 90 mi (145 km) east of the city of Fresno. It is the tallest mountain within the continental United States with an elevation of 14,500 ft (4,420 m). The mountain was named after Josiah Whitney (1819-1896), who served as one of the chief geologists in California during the late 1800s.

Mount Cameroon is one of Africa's tallest active volcanoes. It is located in the Republic of Cameroon just west of Douala, the country's largest city and has an approximate elevation of 13,200 ft (4,020 m). The mountain is also known as Mongo ma Ndemi "Mountain of Greatness" in the native Duala language.

The name Cameroon was derived from the Portuguese name for the Wouri River (Rio dos Camarões / River of Shrimp), which flows through the country.

Lhotse is located just to the southeast of the king of the mountains, Mount Everest. It ranks as the fourth highest peak in the world with an approximate elevation of 27,900 ft (8,500 m). Like Mount Everest, Lhotse sits in the Himalayan Mountains along the border between China and Nepal. Lhotse's name comes from a Tibetan word that means "south peak".

The volcano has an elevation of approximately 11,000 ft (3,350 m) and is on the east coast of the island near the city of Catania. Mount Etna is considered to be Europe's most active volcano.
