The climate on Waiheke Island can be several degrees (Celsius) warmer than the rest of Auckland and this has produced some magnificent vintages. Crab Farm Winery is situated in the Hawkes Bay. It was originally tidal and had hundreds of crabs. In 1931 the great Hawke's Bay earthquake lifted the land above sea level enabling a vineyard and winery to be built in 1987.
