Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This picture was taken in Bonaventure Cemetery, which became famous when it was featured in the 1994 novel "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by John Berendt. Where was I when I took the picture?

Answer: Savannah, Georgia

Bonaventure Cemetery is located on the banks of the Wilmington River, just east of Savannah, Georgia. The picture is a good example of the artistry that went into many of the graves here. I found the cemetery to be very peaceful, but I don't know if I would go there at midnight.
2. Meet Lucy, the 65-foot-tall iconic elephant located in a populous state on the East Coast. Where was I when this picture was taken?

Answer: Margate City, New Jersey

Lucy was built in 1881 as a advertising gimmick for a real estate development. You take a stairway in one of her legs up to a surprisingly spacious interior that even has its own bathroom. Later on she became a dwelling for a family, an office, a restaurant, a guest cottage and a tavern that was closed by prohibition.

She fell into disrepair and was slated for demolition in the 1960s, but was rescued by volunteers. As you might suspect, her eyes are actually windows. For a nominal fee you can take a tour of Lucy and there is even a gift shop below her.
3. This picture was taken out in front of the Chrysler Museum of Art located in a major U.S. Navy seaport on the East Coast. Where was I when the picture was taken?

Answer: Norfolk, Virginia

The Chrysler Museum of Art was founded in 1933 and is said to be one of the major art museums in Southeast of the United States. Its main claim to fame is its collection of American and European paintings and sculpture from the Middle Ages in Europe to the present.

The building itself is as much a work of art as any of the exhibits in it and I strongly recommend a visit if you find yourself in the Norfolk area.
4. The sign says that this is the actual fence from the book "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". It is in the home town where author Mark Twain grew up. Where was I when the picture was taken?

Answer: Hannibal, Missouri

Hannibal plays heavily on the Mark Twain connection with signs like these in front of Becky Thatcher's house and several other locations. It has several small tourist-trap museums and other sites. We stayed a couple nights at the Barth Woodside Mansion in the same room that Mark Twain is said to have used whenever he visited Hannibal.

It is also said to be haunted, and I looked for the ghost of Mark, but he never did show up.
5. This isn't just any old farmhouse. This is a view of the house used in the movie "Field of Dreams", taken from just back of second base. Where was I in when I took the picture?

Answer: Dyersville, Iowa

The big hint was "Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa". The baseball field from the movie has been preserved as a tourist attraction. I especially wanted to visit this because I wanted to see what was really out in that cornfield. Unfortunately, I went in April when the corn was just planted and there was nothing beyond the outfield but plowed dirt.

It's open for visitors, and they even have a gift shop. If you want to stay overnight in the farmhouse, they do have rooms to rent.
6. Ar first you might think you have strayed into Paris, but it is not so. This is the city that was built on gambling. The Neon Capital of the world. Sin City. What happens here, stays here. Where was I when the picture was taken?

Answer: Las Vegas, Nevada

We stayed there for a week and had a really great time visiting the attractions in the hotels. You can take an elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower, ride a gondola through the Venetian, and walk over the steam vents in a reproduction of the mean streets of New York in New York, New York. It's a fabulous vacation spot.
7. This is the restored colonial town that was once the capital of the state. This is where Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty, or give me death". This is where the College of William and Mary is located. George Washington slept here, as did many of the heroes of the American Revolution. Where was I when this picture was taken?

Answer: Williamsburg, Virginia

If you have any interest in the history of the United States, you owe it to yourself to spend a week in the restored area of Williamsburg, Virginia. Nearly all the buildings are original and there are dozens of types of craftsmen plying their trade using the same methods and tools as our colonial ancestors did more than two hundred years ago.
8. Here is the Circus World Museum located in the northern midwest city where the Ringling Brothers grew up. It was once the location the circus would spend the winter in before they moved their overwinter quarters to Florida. Where was I when this picture was taken? Don't let the answer scare you.

Answer: Baraboo, Wisconsin

If you find yourself in this area of Wisconsin, the Circus Museum is a sight you should not miss. They have a fantastic collection of restored circus wagons, some going back to mid-19th century. They even have the ticket sales wagon for the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. Along with the original animal pens, the many exhibits relating to the circus, and the miniature circus exhibit it is well worth a day or two of your time.
9. This is not just any gas station. It's one of the original gas stations that serviced Route 66, located on a preserved piece of the real Route 66. The Queen Road. America's Highway. It's located near the eastern terminus of the original Route 66. What major city was I near when I took this picture?

Answer: Chicago, Illinois

There is a long stretch of the original Route 66 south of Chicago that has been preserved along with many of the original restaurants, gas stations, billboards and scenery. When we planned a month-long trip through the midwest, I made sure to include this in our travel plans.
10. Here it is. The Mall of America. The Megamall. Nearly three million square feet of shopping. Over 500 stores. They get more shoppers annually than the total population of Canada. Where was I when I took this picture?

Answer: Bloomington, Minnesota

Unfortunately I only spent two days at the Mall of America, so I only saw a small portion of it. It was opened in 1992. It's owned by the Ghermezian brothers, who also own the West Edmonton Mall which is even larger than the Mall of America. Along with the 500+ stores on four levels, there are more than 20 rides and attractions and over 10,000 employees. Everything about the mall is big.
