Answer: Town Beach

In total Port Macquarie has 9 beaches. In order from north to south they are Northshore Beach, Town Beach, Oxley Beach, Rocky Beach, Flynn's Beach, Nobbys Beach (our town's "doggy beach"), Shelley Beach, Miner's Beach, (be careful it's a nudist beach) and Lighthouse Beach.
2. Surveyor-General John Oxley with a party of 15, including 12 convicts, (ah! we owe a lot to good old "Mother England") arrived at Port Macquarie on 8th October, in what year?

Answer: 1818

In 1818 Governor Macquarie sent this party lead by Oxley who subsequently named the port after his governor.
3. What is the name of Port Macquarie's main street that terminates at Lady Nelson Wharf on the river?

Answer: Horton Street

Being approximately a half a kilometre long Horton Street runs in a north-south direction from Lady Nelson Wharf on the river to the north and the Historic Cemetery at its southern perimeter.

The Hastings River is a large river on the mid-North Coast of the Australian state of New South Wales that empties into the Tasman Sea, a branch of the South Pacific Ocean. The river was first charted by European explorers in 1818 after its discovery by John Oxley who named the river for the then Governor-General of India, Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 1st Marquess of Hastings.

Whilst making a survey of the New South Wales coastline on "HMS Investigator" on the 2nd July 1802, Captain Matthew Flinders recorded "A port with a rocky entrance." He stood close in and put about at Tacking Point hence the name.

Answer: Ellenborough Falls

Ellenborough Falls are to be found via the Comboyne Plateau to the south-west of Wauchope. The Ellenborough River drops some 200m over the escarpment at the falls.
8. Built between 1824 and 1828 is one of Australia's oldest churches. What is its name?

Answer: St. Thomas Church of England

The foundation stone for this church was laid on 8th December 1824 and with the help of convict labour the church was completed in February 1828 and dedicated by the Reverend John Cross on 24th February 1828.
(the church is now known as St Thomas Anglican Church)

The Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie, Australia, is the world's first hospital dedicated solely to the care and preservation of koalas. The hospital has a treatment room, eight intensive care units, a 24 hour rescue and treatment operation and multiple recovery yards. The hospital has a research affiliation with the University of Sydney, Australia.
10. What is the name of Port Macquarie's unique rainforest?

Answer: Sea Acres Nature Reserve

I am a proud volunteer guide at this 70-hectare forest, the Sea Acres Nature Reserve, just one kilometre south of my home. It is one of only three dedicated reserves in NSW for public education by The National Parks and Wildlife Service. C'mon and visit and see our "strangler figs" in action.
