The area called the Black Hills was named by the Lakota who established themselves in the area after conquering the Cheyenne in 1776. In 1874 gold was discovered in the area and the Lakota people were forcibly moved to other parts of South Dakota. For much of the 20th century mining and timber were the backbone of the economy but tourism eventually became the primary industry of the Black Hills.

Auburn Hills was initially known as Pontiac Township when the area was first incorporated in the early 1800s but it wasn't until 1983 that the city officially became known as Auburn Hills. The aforementioned Palace of Auburn Hills opened in 1988 and it is one of the city's main sites as the home of the NBA's Detroit Pistons.

The first film in the series, "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" was about a spoiled Chihuahua named Chloe being kidnapped while in Mexico.

Andrew Hill was a jazz pianist and composer who was active in the music scene for more than 50 years until his death in 2007.

Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, the city of Tampa was first incorporated in 1849 but it wasn't until the late 1880s when phosphate was discovered and rail passage was linked to the city that it began to prosper.
