The Paraguay River forms the border between Paraguay and Brazil and flows south before connecting with the Apa River. It runs through four countries: Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia.

Brazil IS the largest country in South America. It was a founding member of the United Nations. It lies on the east coast of the continent. Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil with nearly twice the population of Rio de Janeiro, the second largest.

Answer: massive oil deposits

Massive deposits of oil were discovered in Lake Maracaibo during World War I. The economic boom created by this discovery lasted well into the 1980s.

Answer: The Chamber of Deputies

Chilean senators are elected to eight year terms which are staggered so not all terms are elected in the same year. Deputies are elected to four year terms.

Answer: A wind instrument

The quena is an instrument made of either cane or wood. It is very similar to a recorder, with six finger holes and one thumb hole. Like the recorder, sound is produced by blowing in the hole at the top and covering the holes in various combinations to produce musical notes. Most quenas are made to produce notes in the key of G.
9. Bolivia: For whom is Bolivia named?

Answer: Simon Bolivar

Simon Bolivar was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He was a major leader in the wars of independence. When Venezuelan leader Antonio José de Sucre was given the option to either unite what was then known as Charcas with the Republic of Peru or create a whole new country he chose the latter and named Charcas "Bolivia" after Simon Bolivar.
