1. The agriculture of which nation is enriched by its fertile volcanic soils?

Answer: Indonesia

Although the volcanic soils provide the nutrients needed for successful crops, there is of course a hazard associated with living on the slopes of a volcano, but many Indonesians have no choice. Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia all depend on their rivers, the Chao Phraya and the Mekong, for their rich alluvial soils that are also great for growing crops.
2. What is the only landlocked nation of Southeast Asia?

Answer: Laos

It is surrounded by Thailand, China, Vietnam and Cambodia. Thailand and Cambodia both have coastlines of the Gulf of Thailand, and Thailand also on the Andaman Sea. Brunei has a coastline on the South China Sea.
3. Which of these is a predominantly Christian nation in Southeast Asia?

Answer: Philippines

Most people in the Philippines are Roman Catholics, a legacy of their colonial rule under the Spanish. East Timor is another southeaster Asian country whose people are mainly Catholics. Vietnam and Burma (Myanmar) are both predominantly Buddhist, and Malaysia is mainly Islamic.
4. Which of these cities is regarded as an "entrepot" city, in regards to trading?

Answer: Singapore

Singapore is the halfway point on the sea voyage between India and China, and its excellent natural harbour meant it was an ideal choice as an entrepot city - that is, a port where goods are transferred between different modes of transportation (eg ship to train), and also from container ships to smaller ships. but do not remain within the city.
5. The State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC) is associated with which country?

Answer: Burma (Myanmar)

in 1994-95, they neutralised the opposition party by signing individual ceasefire agreements with rebel groups.

Answer: 5765 kms/2226 miles

Singapore is 618 sq. kms/239 sq. miles, making it the smallest Southeast Asian nation. Indonesia is the largest at 1,906,240 sq. kms/741,040 sq. miles. Brunei at 5765 sq. kms/2226 sq. miles, and Laos at 234,804 sq. kms/91,400 sq. miles is somewhere in the middle.

Answer: Tonle Sap

The others are all cities. Tonle Sap is the source of Cambodia's entire fish supply, which is significant as most Cambodians, being Buddhist, don't eat meat, and so fish is one of their staple foods.
8. Who was the first Prime Minister of Singapore?

Answer: Lee Kuan Yew

Lee Kuan Yew was the longest-serving Prime Minister of Singapore, leading the nation between 1959 and 1990. Goh Chok Tong has been the Prime Minister since 1990. Lee Hsien Loong is Lee Kuan Yew's son, and is emerging to be a significant figure on the political scene. Ong Teng Cheong has been the President since 1993.
9. How many nations share a land border with Thailand?

Answer: 4

Thailand shares borders with Malaysia to the south, Burma (Myanmar) to the west, and Laos and Cambodia to the east.
10. Vietnam was colonised by which European nation?
