Answer: Grand Palace

The Grand Palace is not a single building, as someone might imagine, but a complex of buildings. Initially it was the official residence of the monarchs of the country. It is still used for ceremonial purposes and for visiting dignitaries. The palace section of the complex comprises the outer, middle and inner courts.

The outer court houses various offices of the state; the middle court is used for official ceremonies and the inner court was the former residence of the King.
2. Wat Phra Kaew is believed to be the most sacred temple in Thailand. What is it commonly known as in English?

Answer: Emerald Buddha

Wat Phra Kaew is situated in the Grand Palace complex. It is one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in the world and contains the statue of the Emerald Buddha which was sculpted out of a single block of jade. The statue was made in the 15th century and stands on a very high platform.
3. Khao Phing Kan is an island in the Phang Nga Bay which since 1974 was named after what super spy?

Answer: James Bond

The island featured in the 1974 film "The Man with the Golden Gun" and became a tourist attraction due to it. It offers beautiful scenery and can be easily reached from Phuket island which is about 25 kilometres away.

Answer: National Park

Khao Yai was the first national park in the country and it was founded in 1962. It extends to an area which is well over 2,000 square kilometres. It features forests, grasslands, mountains, waterfalls and wild life. Some of the animals that can be seen in the park include elephants, monkeys, deer and civets.

It is also home to over 300 species of birds both local and migratory. If your fancy is reptiles you will be fully satisfied as you can view pythons, ratsnakes, water dragons and crested lizards.

Answer: Temple of Dawn

Aruna is the Indian God of Dawn. The temple was built during the Chakri dynasty of Thailand which begun in 1782. This temple used to house the Emerald Buddha before it was moved to Wat Phra Kaew. The building boasts a large tower that is surrounded by four other smaller towers. The tower is 79 meters high and it is covered with ceramic tiles.

Ayutthaya was one of the largest and important cities in the world. Ayutthaya was located on an island and was surrounded by rivers and through them was connected to the sea. The town was built on high ground which rendered it safe from both invading armies and high tides.

The city was completely destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767. Ayutthaya is a World Heritage site. Antioch was a Greek and later Roman city on the river Orontes in what is now Antakya in Turkey, Nineveh was an Assyrian city located near Mosul in Iraq and Amaravati is the capital city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Answer: Rock Climbing

This rather isolated peninsula is surrounded by mountains and it is only accessible by sea. It is one of the most famous places in the world for rock climbing. The cliffs are made out of limestone and the main climbing area is located in Ton Sai. You could most probably do the other three suggested activities but rock climbing is the king in Railay.
8. Just off the coast of Phang-Nga there lie a group of islands. What is the monkey -sounding name of these islands?

Answer: Similan

The Similan islands are located in the Adaman Sea and were declared marine national park in 1982. There are eleven islands in this archipelago. Diving is the main activity here, due to the abundance of tropical fish, coral and beautifully clear waters.

If you drop the "l" from the name you end up with the word simian which pertains to apes and monkeys.
9. Phanom Rung is a Hindu temple that is located near the village of Nang Rong. Which empire was responsible for building this temple?

Answer: Khmer

The temple was built on top of an extinct volcano between the 10th and 13th century by the Khmer. The temple was dedicated to Shiva and it is part of a historical park. The hill itself symbolises the centre of the Universe.

Phanom Rung means "The vast mountain" in the Khmer language. Gupta and Maurya were Indian Empires and the Abbasid Empire stretched from western India to Spain.

Answer: The Beach

Hat Maya was the main beach of the island which is not very far from Phuket. The waterfall in the film was Haeo Suwat Falls in Khao Yai National Park. Krabi and Phuket were also used for scenes in the film.

"Blue Lagoon" was filmed in Fiji, "Pirates of the Caribbean" in various locations in the Caribbean and "Castaway" was also filmed in Fiji.
